Lily is recruited by the Marines to go back and take on the monster and its minions after it ravages Queens. There's a Tagruato rep there to watch over the operation and the company finds a sole survivor, a little girl who somehow has gotten away from the monsters - wait, this sounds familiar, hahahaha!

Sequel? Just because there are a few loose ends doesn't spell "sequel". Remember that whole thing that's online and offline and all that jazz? Oh yeah, the ARG involved. When I was watching the movie, the whole ARG online, with the Myspaces and Jamie and all that, was what I was thinking of. The movie was just a branching off from the ARG, and the rest of the ARG will branch from the movie.

Should there be a sequel

Because you know, "It's Still Alive", I think Lily comes back to Manhattan to see how damaged it is and to see if Rob/Beth are alive. They meet up with some other survivors and try to piece together where the monster came from, why it attacked, Slusho, Tagruato, if Rob still wants to go to Japan and then BANG. MGP is back to kill the survivors.
