Questions about Hud.... [SPOILERS] Is the monster after him... specifically? OK yes here come the crack pot up since 3:00 am and all jacked up on red bull theories.
My first question about Hud came when that guy speaking what seemed to be spanish (maybe not) grabbed Hud and wouldnt let him go. Now yes there was a giant monster stomping on New York and that guy was prolly just trying to stop them from going directly into its path. But he ran right past Rob and the others to Hud....
Next up came the tunnels. Right after the attack we hear Hud remark (very awkwardly might I add) something to the effect of "it was crazy that thing tried to carry me off"-paraphrase. Strange no? Maybe I wasnt watching right or the shaking came was playing tricks on me but didnt it seem that the mini creatures just wanted to chomp everyone else to bits? why would it want to just kill the others and not hud?
Then next part of my theory also has to do with the mini creatures... While in Beth apartment there is another mini creature up in the top of a high rise building. I believe this was on the creatures that attacked them in the tunnels and followed them up the high rise. Now you might say maybe it just fell off the monster and stayed up there early in the attack. But why? these creatures are blood thirsty. Why would it chill up in a high rise for close to 8 hours and wait for someone? It wouldnt.
And finally to top things off in one of the final scenes of the movie hud is killed by the large cloverfield monster in central park. Now we must go back to how they got in central park. They are flying off safe and sound to salvation, when they past the monster getting the living hell bombed out of it. If falls down... then looks up and dives at the helicopter. The copter crashes, and the monster follows them in to central park. In hud's death scene the monster gets right above him and it seemed to me like it studied him. Almost like it was looking for something specific then it chops on him and leaves him. BUT the creature pays no attention to Beth and Rob.
Now Im not saying that the monster came to New York to get Hud and Hud alone but I think there is a possibility that there are some humans that are marked in some way that makes them more desireable to the monster, or that makes the monster dislike them more than other people.
What could do this? well Im thinking that it has something to do with the sea-nectar in slushos. Maybe that comes from what the creature eats in its natural habitat. And if a human has a high content of the sea-nectar in them then maybe it some how marks them for the creature or it can smell it on them or something.....
So tell me what you guys think? Sorry about the length.

Hmmm. Interesting theory.
We do know that HUD has had a Slusho before. (he commented on Rob's blog about working for slusho, talking about how delicious it is)

Wow, I was about to write something very similar to this. I've been wondering about the whole "monster eating people" thing. It seemed to be quite fond of their abdominal areas. In the one scene where they wheel a soldier by the camera, it looked like he had his stomach/chest eaten. And of course our good friend Hud, well it seemed to have attacked him the same way.

The reason that they soldiers chest is "blown" open is because i think he exploded kinda like marlena.. maybe not to that extent.. but it definatly looks like something hatched out of the poor guy...

Yeah i doubt that that guy was killed by MGP himself. I assumed he exploded like Marlena, but maybe one of the parasites just killed him as well.

Interesting none the less. When I saw the asian dude or whatever it was rambling to HUD. I swear Godzilla popped into my head with the old man repeating Godzilla.
Anyway. The only reason I think HUD isn't important is because Clover did kill him. If he wanted him alive he wouldn't have "finished" him. But my eyes were so big when the monster was staring down on us. It's prob the most profound memory I have of the movie.
I did how ever found it very interesting that Clover did study him. He was like wondering if he was worth it or not. Then he just said "F*** it" And killed him.
I think it shows that Clover is like a baby in some sorts; curiosity, scared in some sense, from the airal views, he did kinda like "baby-ish" is some aspects.
I unno, just my 2cents.

You definitely have an interesting theory here.
All the things you mentioned most certainly happened in the movie. I just cant come up with a plausible reason, other than the ol' slusho thing which I dont like at all.

I was thinking the exact same thing while watching. There are 3 instances that I can think of when the monster looks directly into the camera (i.e. Hud).
1. One of the street encounters, before the military distracts him
2. Right before they go into the subway tunnels
3. at the end in central park
I didn't make the connection about the monster attacking HUD's chopper, but I did remember one of the people who didn't enjoy the film commenting about the lack of realism that the monster "waited around in central park after attacking the helicopter".
Now I realize HUD, being the cameraman should get some facetime of the monster, but the line "did you guys see that, they tried to pull me away?" kind of made a distinct impression.

Interesting ideas. Throughout the movie, I was wondering why the monster(s) seemed to constantly be following the group around which the movie is based, and why, in particular, the monster stopped to pick up Hud in his mouth. This seemed very out of place to me, but I wrote it off as a plot device, the bane of all believable movies. I didn't put any thought at all into the "That thing tried to carry me off" line.
But this idea that the monster(s) are actively searching for Hud for whatever reason may make the most sense.

Thank god! I so glad someone else put this all together also. I believe you hit it right on the nose!
There is so much more to this story that we are missing.
1. Why are the parasites mutated also?
2. Why do they make people explode?
3. Why was it trying to just carry Hud off?
I believe we are finally getting down to what this is about. And I think it all revolves around the parasites, DSN, and what it does.

I was wondering the same thing after it seemed like MPG lunged towards the camera before the subway.(Knowing ahead of time that Hud was destined to be supper). I just chalked it up to some foreshadowing.

Seriously, what a great question.
A few notes that if the monster wanted to kill Hud, he easily could have just by stepping on him. It seemed to me that if MGP wanted to, he'd just swat at some of the people and kill them that way. No, he studied Hud, like he was smelling him.
As noted, Hud does like SLUSHO! and maybe there's something that attracted MGP.
Also note that MGP didn't attack Huds neck at all, he attacked his torso, right at his stomach. Maybe getting some DSN back?

About the torso eating. I don't think a 250foot monster with a head the size of 5 vans has many options of where it can eat a 6ft tall dude.
