Not to mention the fact that the monster that could be seen from Beth's apartment looked like it was walking on two legs, and was taller than every building it was walking by. To be fair...they might've just messed up when they were making the movie, hoping no one would care? That seems ridiculous, because there's no way JJ Abrams could underestimate internet nerds.
P.S. Hud's "A terrible thing!" and "Another thing, also terrible!" lines in Beth's apartment were probably my favorite.
That's the same thing I said both times walking out of the theater with two different sets of people. Best. Lines. Ever.
If you were a local, they would've been second best. We have a homeless guy who hangs out outside the local Carmike theatres, and he is very openly gay (he usually talks about how he's "never gonna find a good man wif'out a showah!"), and those of us who know him laughed a lot at the "flaming homeless person" line.

Boooo to Hud dying.
Best one of them all!
Back to the multi-monster theory:
Although is does sound feasible maybe it was just a production error. I do believe there is a strong chance that there were more then one but I do remember when the group asked the military what it was he replied "I don't know but it's winning."
If anything I think if you were battling this thing/things you would be pretty certain if there were more then one.

I don't believe there were two monsters. At least considering by the size argument.
There is a drastic difference in size between MPG when he's on his hind legs when opposed to doing the quad thing.

I agree with Ouroborus. I think the major different in size would be if it was walking erect or on its "knuckles" (front arms/legs). I am pretty confident that it is only one monster as it would seem to me that if there were multiple monsters, the situation would have been too far out of control. The military could barely hang with one MGP, much less multiple MGP's.

Matt Reeves said there is one monster (im pretty certain) in an interview when asked about the size of the monster in the scene when Hud is killed. He said its the perception of the shot

Dont forget, its ability to "Magically" be everywhere in New York at the same time.
Its in the streets, 1 second later its under the bridge, and then releasing parasites on a building?
Doesnt make sence.

I was just about to make this point. Also the line about "we're taking one more shot at THIS THING and then they'll level the city." I know that's a paraphrase. I've only seen it once and am not able to quote verbatim. YET
But anyway, like the "it's winning" comment, that guy is the most informed person the group comes into contact w/ during the whole movie. If anyone would know what they were dealing w/, it'd be this guy. And he clearly speaks in the singular at every turn when referencing MGP.

No guys, no. No. No second monster. Here are production notes quotes from J.J. himself:
Quote:
The concept for the monster (affectionately known simply as "Clover" in-house) is simple, says Abrams. "He's a baby. He's brand-new. He's confused, disoriented and irritable. And he's been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years."
This tells us not only that there is ONE monster, but also that it did NOT come from outer space/the satellite thing falling into the ocean at the end of the movie.
And I really doubt we can compare size difference from difference shots in the movie, because the angle of the camera, being a tiny first-person p.o.v. really doesnt show size difference very well at all.

Sorry, I just don't see the possibility of two monsters.

I thought it was question of "standing" vs "walking" on 4s Regarding the height difference, it seemed to me ( just got out and only saw the film once ) that the monster had *very* long limbs but preferred walking on all fours ( with its elbows "forward" )
I think it "stood up" and swatted at the helicopter.

I understand all the "He" and "It" references in the movie and interviews. Thats definitely what they've put out there for us all to take in.
BUT....Although I'm not completely convinced either way, Don't think for one minute that JJ and crew wouldn't intentionally mislead us.

Oh, don't forget it has a long reach
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Just in case, when it was getting pounded while they rescued Beth, remember it "caught" itself by reaching out and clawed part of the partially razed building?

Guys.... I think it's obvious that there was only one monster. Really. I can't believe you guys are serious about the multiple monster theory.
It seems completely obvious that the creature could stand both on two legs and on all fours, thus drastically changing it's height.

OK, some of this has been talked about before ... I didn't do a search, so I'm not sure if all of it has, but here goes ...
Does anyone remember a scene - I can't remember where it took place, a stairwell or hallway - when a mini-monster that was after them was attacked and Lily (I think, it could have been Marlena before she exploded) said something like "what was that?" to which HUD (I think) said "something else"? This was after they'd already seen a variety of "minis" come off "momma" ...
I keep thinking about the fact that Ganu was in town talking SLUSHO, that TIDO had poured "a liquid over his head", thinking about that Kishin manga ... and does anyone remember seeing the hazardous waste container on the street?
What if there are two "families" of monsters, and Ganu is one of them ... and TIDO somehow controls the other?
This might explain why one "family" was specifically after Hud and anyone who had consumed Slusho.

Yeah, plus I thought that the monster while they were entering the subway had a mouth thing surrounded by tentacles under its belly.
