I wasn't disapointed by the monster so much, but that I didn't get to see more of him taking things out. The movie left me wanting more in that reguard.
Ahem...
Sequels?
Franchise?
How special.
Monster vs Millitary scenes in Daikaiju films is like biting in vampire movies. This movie was severely lacking in them, and the monster wasn't spectacular enough to excuse that. I was really anticipating them too. Human's eye view and all.

The monster went way beyond my expectations. The thing I liked most is that it moved and reacted as it it were a real, living creature, and not some slow moving guy in a rubber suit. They seemed to put some real thought into its biology and mechanics.

What's with all the Godzilla bashing on this forum? TOHO Isn't going to make another Godzilla movie until, like, 2010, so there's really no need to get territorial.

I was blown away by the design of both the monster and the parasites, and also they acted so realistically!

Did they like Bourne Supremacy?
I don't believe they did. They did mention that it might have been nice to work more nastiness in such as
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
having the military hospital overrun by wee beasties for example
and
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
having HUD get more captivated by the monster in some spots rather than just staring at his friends moving
In the end it was our slusho friend's story, and not so much the monster's story... maybe that's part of it. The folks leaving the theater weren't sounding to enthused but this was a mid day matinee. We'll see how it does.
Either way I can't wait for a director's cut and the commentary

Agreed, this is a monster movie, while I did like Rob and his crew, they could have easily spared a few of the "running through through corridors" parts with monster action.

The comparisons to Godzilla are to demonstrate the differences. Godzilla is lightweight thrills, lots of action, and not very much depth at all. Love it for what it is, enjoy for that too - if that's something you can enjoy. I just don't enjoy it as much as when I was much younger, and even then I wasn't all that intrigued. It's OK to like Godzilla, just don't pretend Cloverfield was going to be another Godzilla type of movie. Would you really want another Godzilla knockoff?
That being said, this movie wasn't going to star the monster in the way that Godzilla does. That means no long wide glamor shots of it. The fact it more than fills the frame in most shots and even in the longer shots is harder to keep in frame is supposed to convey it's enormity. It's alive, and it's HUGE! Our fear of it due to this scale and our inability to grasp it all at once is just far different and more cerebral than Godzilla stomping on a bus. I love how MGP is depicted, he's perfectly intimidating.

I thought the big monster sucked. It was better when they just showed it in quick glimpses, espesially the first sighting when all you could only see the tail. When they showed the entire monster at the end I was like "BLAH, a skinny lizard with preying mantis arms and a fish mouth?? WTF??". And the monster's face was way too "cute" to be terrifying. I definitely think that they are planning to come out with "stuffed" Cloverfield Monsters toys.

I loved it, perfectly terrifying, crabs and ogre fish and squids, that frickin' thing was scary. IRL it would have been utterly unspeakable, how do you describe that? Either HUD or Rob had the most apt description when Beth asked what it was. I don't know, something terrible (or something like that)....small monsters....another thing, also terrible (laughed my ass off at that). If that's anyone's idea of cute, well, let's just say I am glad I don't know anyone who thinks that.

I think he spans genres, the film makers I mean I think the reason it was not non-stop "action" was that he was also going for suspense.
I used to laugh at my dad because he thought the original "The Fly" was an intense film, and it had laughable special effects ( not then perhaps ) but the ending was super intense.
Anyways I think there was good tension and suspense in the film, and I'm happy with how MGP came out.

I was so aboslutely sure the monster would be whale-like... SO SURE... I mean, COUNTLESS whale clues... All over the Slusho website, Ganu dreaming of becoming a whale, Tidowave's bulletin board bulletin on whales... So many whale clues...
Only to have the monster look like some kind of human/crab/vampire bat...
(Sigh...)
Not saying I didnt love the movie though. I was just so sure...

This isn't an anonymous board where you can be jerks. It's not funny, and it's not cool.

I didn't like what I was seeing in the drawings from people's early descriptions.
But after seeing the movie...I love it.
It's a twisted amalgam of wierd and different creatures.
One of my brothers thinks that those odd things hanging off the front of the creature look like horse hooves.
Kind of a creepy thought.

... I agree, Some Thing - "Clovie" looked very organic, but as you said, twisted into weird joint configurations alien to most creatures we know. And it was PLENTY 'big enough' for me, stepping on tanks like they were bath sponges and knocking over skyscrapers like playtoys - thank you very much, but "Clovie" is more than large enough just as "he".."she"..errr, "it" is..! ...
