i would like to bump this if thats alright. i am interested in what this guy said in the film...maybe someone has figured something out that didnt see this thread...i couldnt even tell what the guy was speaking. im sure others are interested and want to know even if its not important.

It was russian, my girlfriend is from armenia and she speaks russian fluently and she pointed it out during the movie. I'll ask her in the morning if she remembers what the guy said.

He clearly wasn't speaking Japanese... off the top of my head it sounded French, but I guess the credits pointed to a Russian instead.

Oh and dosn't any one remeber Rush Hour 3, they came across a whole gang of french speaking asians, so how they look should aboslutely have nothing to do with what they speak. Perhapes the Russian speaking asian was thrown in specifially by Abrams as a clue, but did it the way he did it to cunfuzzle us as he already does???

He said "No! No! You are going the wrong way! You can not go the wrong way! There are little big spiders (hard to translate, exactly, but he let him know that there were smaller monsters who were also big, and spider-like)! There is a monster!"

Nothing revealing. Probably just something for everyone to obsess over, or maybe a throwback to the babbling and screaming citizens of Tokyo?

Are you speculating, or are you serious? I mean, you actually understood it?

Months ago, when we were all speculating about how realistic the movie might be, I said that it would be reeeally stupid if they ran into a wild-eyed scientist while fleeing the city, y'know - the cliche moment in an MST3K quality movie where the scientist babbles out the whole backstory, about how it was all his fault, etc. When I saw the movie (yesterday) and that guy grabbed Hud and started babbling, my heart sank...

So, again - tMan930, is your translation the real deal? If it is, then that's a great relief!

Yep, girlfriend says he said something along the lines of "Hurry, hurry, come this way!" But she didn't remember what else he said.

I went and saw this tonight with a friend of mine. He is Russian. I asked him after we left what the ally guy was saying. It basically doesn't reveal anything like I was hoping. My friend just said the guy was repeating things like "Hey buddy, listen to me!" over and over. With some minor variation on that theme. Swap buddy for friend and that sort of thing "hey friend, listen to me!". He didn't say anything about the spider things or anything like that. Was just some freaked out guy trying to get somebody to listen to him.

And I don't know how people could think that sounded like Japanese or French, heh.

i saw it again tonight and i paid attention to it coz i thought he was japanese the first time round...just from his looks

second time round...definitely russian...he def spoke russian...and he looked russian...he just had a really gay haircut that looked old asian man style...and the lighting wasn't good on his face...

looking at him in this scene he could easily be mistaken for japanese...but the language couldn't

After seeing this a second time, he was definitely speaking something Slavic. I have no reason at this point to doubt the simple and straightforward translations offered.

Some Thing

When I saw the movie the first time, I thought, "that guy's not Japanese, he's Russian."

After seeing a second time, I wasn't so sure, but I'd bet the language is from one of the Eastern-Bloc countries.
