I didn't even realize Fandango had user ratings. I wouldn't have ever thought to look there for opinions.
Still, I added my own "must go" rating.

A lot of people dont know how to use that, apparently... They said "this movie is stupid" before they ever saw it, and put the lowest raiting.
on the other hand, people that thought the Trailer was cool, some have been following the ARG/E, and went ahead and put "Must Go" before THEY had seen the movie...
The point is to put your review of the movie AFTER you've seen it.
Same applies to other places like Rotten Tomatoes

The problem is that too many moviegoers are brainwashed into this formulaic hollywood bullshit, so when a movie ends like Cloverfield did, people feel like they were tricked, and thus go into neanderthal-like explosions including such beautiful catch phrases as "Dude, that was fucking shit. What the fuck kind of a fucking ending was that?"

This film is very different in a lot of ways. Because of that at very least initially it's reception is likely to be very rocky. I'm glad it's not necessarily getting instant rave reviews and ratings like some past piles of manure...
Like oh, say - Titanic?

some of you are going to hate me for saying this, but in and of itself, the movie isn't that great.
i'll admit that if i hadn't read all this stuff about it and been intrigued by tagruato, slusho!, government conspiracies, and everything else, i probably wouldn't have liked it either.
the reason we love it is because what happens between "CASE DESIGNATE: CLOVERFIELD" and "That was the best day ever!" doesn't even scratch the surface of what is going on here. we're looking at this movie the way the director wanted us to look at it (and as it as presented): as one little piece of "evidence" in a much larger situation. to us, watching this movie and knowing nothing else about it is like judging the intrigue of the OJ Simpson case based on the gloves.
p.s. little know fact: people don't like movies that make them feel motion sick

I don't know about that. My husband knew nothing of the viral campaign and he loved the movie. I think the film can stand alone fine.

This movie is good and can stand alone to those who are somewhat cultured and intelligent, not brainwashed into wanting bread and circuses. Unfortunately, 60-70 percent of our society is(I'm probably a bit optomistic here), so brilliant works of film get buried unless they somehow also encompass the commonly wanted things (explosions, romance for females, and sex for males).
"Today was a good day" is quite possibly one of the great ending lines of a film, especially with the juxtaposition of what just occurred.
*Edited for my terrible, terrible grammar.

(First post! Better make this count...)
I don't know about anyone else, but my theater was filled with High schoolers when I went to go see it, most of them thinking they were going to be watching a big monster movie and getting disappointed by *gasp!* plot.
That, and I heard a lot of "mumblemumble Blair Witch mumble shaky cam" as I was leaving the theater. To the regular audience, Cloverfield was really reminiscent of Blair Witch, at least in the shaky cam and never really getting a definite ending/view of the monster.

I'm not stupid, I rarely watch Hollywood films anymore and I loved this movie...but I still want a sequel. Stop calling everyone who wants a sequel an unintelligent moron.
People don't say give me a sequel with explosions and sex, they say give me a sequel with more character development and more story. Whatever technique they use to film it should not have any effect if it is a good story with good script and characters.
Stop acting like an elitist genius fuck.
It's an opinion, people are not stupid for having one.
