I believed they quaratined poor Marlena simply because they don't won't her blood and guts all over everybody, I believe that was there first objective of quaratine. But second, it didn't seem like when the Marlena exploded something exploded out of her, it seemed like she just simply exploded for no explanation at all. All I can assume that the bite is very, very allergic to humans, instant swelling and over swelling could eventually cause explosion.... right?

Well, the man being hauled off on the stretcher with his insides hanging out, I say, was bitten, some people might have different reactions. Oh and she drank tons of beer that night? Do not mix with alcohol? Maybe Maybe.

I've got to wonder what exactly would make her pop like that? it looks like she popped from the waist and thighs out, also on that other expoded guy (and come to think of it on the blood splatter when Marlene popped) there wasn't anything there, making me think that whatever it was that caused them to pop, it must have been a gas of some kind.

Since you nicely tagged this a spoiler thread, spoiler obscuring within is not so totally critical.

Those little guys are parasites, like lice or fleas. Quarantine would be to isolate and attempt to contain the little baby beasties when they pop out of their hosts. They probably don't fully understand the means by which the 'infection' of the host humans occur, so they don't take chances. The rest of our folks didn't get sick in any such form, despite close exposure to Marlena and her blood.

I was thinking more like a chemical reaction, like bubbling yeast/beer brewing. Since we don't know WTF the parasites are, and how they're built and adapt, maybe something transmitted in their bite. Some bacteria or something. It mixes up with the human bloodstream, or gets into the gastric juices, and starts to ferment, building incredible eternal pressure. Boom.

I have to guess that whatever is in her blood system to cause Marlena to burst might get passed on to someone else should her blood make contact with skin on another person, or more specifically exposed tissue (eyes, nose, mouth)

I dont recall hearing gunfire after she exploded. If another creature popped from her womb wouldnt they fire at it? I think she was quarantined to avoid biological contamination as they havent had time to fully determine if her blood could cause harm to those around her,hence the suits. They didnt have suits and machine guns to kill something just suits to keep blood/body fluids from making direct contact. I believe the bite causes some sort internal hemorrhaging(which explains dizziness and lethargy) the blood has no where to go and escapes where it can(eyes bleeding)while filling the largest empty cavity within the body the stomach until it cant hold anymore then burst.

Another theory,when spiders eat their prey they have this fluid they put inside the prey via bite which liquifys the internals making it easier for them to suck out the contents. Spiders do it to prey thats already captured and cant flee maybe the parasites bite renders prey that escapes ultimately incapacitated.

i don't know if they knew she was going to explode thats why they panicked when she did. I also dont think something burst out of her i dont think thats how they reproduce. Maybe they do turn you though? And she just wasnt a good canidate and she sploded instead. i dunno if someone already pointed it out sorry for repeating it. just my thoughts.

I have dealt with CDC style stuff (on a very minimal level mind you). I think the quarantine is the first reaction to a new unknow organism. They have no idea exactly where it comes from so god knows what virus/parasites/ect. it could be carying. Also its obvious the little bastards are parasites themselves falling off the big guy nd all. AND THEN they got people poping like ticks...so like everyone says: is it a reaction? can it spread? are they reproducing this way? whatever it is they have to contain it however they can. Very freaky stuff...I hate spiders.....these things really got to me!

Think of it this way...

When you are bit by a mosquito or tick (also parasites) when they leave you have a small bump that itches and what not and is essentially just really annoying. This is where they bite/inject you with the poisons to feed off of you. I don't know if any of you all have tried this, but if you have ever squeezed one of these little insect bites, blood and puss comes out of it, and you can make them burst. Kind of like pimples. So if these were just giant lice or ticks that were on the back of whatever mutated, and they mutated and grew as well, then they would still bite but cause a much bigger bump. Thus this would mean that who ever was bitten ultimately turned into one of these itchy bumps full of the puss and poison. But since the monsters are so big and inject such large amounts of germs, bacteria, and poison. Rather than a small swelling on the skin, the people infects just burst when there is no more room inside of them.

I dunno... cotton does have a point, the spider theory is pretty interesting. but then the whole evolution/ adaptation theory started to grow on me... any one else remeber the movie Evolution??? More specifially how the creatures were immediatly giving birth to a stronger more oxygen fit creature. So perhapes these Cephalopod creatures that come of MGP are trying to adapt to the newly acquired environment by placing a new born in a host, BUT, yes theres a but, the Human biology simply is not a suitable host. I mean if this beast (MGP) comes from were sperm whale are snacks, then that could also mean that his little minions have some rather big host to choose from... just so happens that the only feasable host in NYC happens to be a unsustainable human.... In other occasions certain insects will lay eggs in a chosen host, at birth the host dies and goes from a sustainable host to a ripe romp dinner!!! any thoughts??
