2 Questions
About Cloverfield...

Ok so...
1. The military was really quick to respond to the attack. Do you think they knew it was coming? Because an unexpected attack would have left them unorganized and unprepared.

2. Umm i forgot the second question. But please do respond to the first one.

In reality, the US Military is prepared to mobilize to a large city like New York City within an hour. They have domestic defense plans which set into play allowing them to have organization and mobilization on the fly.

I work as a paramedic, and we frequently do Mass Casualty Incident, and disaster drills coordinated with the Fire, and Police departments out here; and occasionally the military reserves out here.

Ever since 9-11 the Office of Domestic Preparedness has been pushing for inter-agency coordination like this.

I think their quick organization was actually one of the more realistic parts of the movie.

That might be true. Anyone remember how long it took tanks to get to NYC on 9/11? (Albeit a different situation, I don't know how long it took them to figure out it was an attack, or if they knew it was over when it was over).

Well forget within the hour. in the movie they were there in 10 minutes, if not already there. we have little idea of whats going on before the party around the city. but they were ready for everything, including the exploding people.

Do tell me, where they store Tanks, Howitzers, and MLRS even *remotely* close to downtown NYC.

Troops yes, heavy weapons? definitely not.

Take a gander at the pics on 1-18-08.com - I think that's the evidence the military has had and collected over the course of events. They appeared out of order in timeline, and I think the most recent are probably from before the SoL attack on NYC. There's also the matter of Chuai being destroyed on 12/27 (presumably 2007) and at least word of a tanker being attacked somewhere roughly between Chuai's location and NYC. I think that helped raise the alert level for forces along the east coast.

the tanker was in NYC harbor

I'd say it was more then 10 minutes, Hud turned off the camera during the walk from their apartment to the Brooklyn bridge so it might have been a while.

Fort Hamilton is right on the other side of Brooklyn, they could easily get there in a short time.

also remember that with 9/11 the army really couldn't do anything, we're talking about planes hitting buildings, it wasn't really a situation that called for tanks.
whereas now, they get 1 look at that thing and General Important sends in everything they've got.

Fort Hamilton only has two Infantry Regiments, no heavy machinery.

More like in theory. That was a hell of a response on 9-11. (diff. situation of course)

The point is, I think they were probably on higher alert considering Chuai had happened, apparently, a few months back. I doubt the military bought Tag's PR ready response that it was eco terrorists.

Maybe MGP trashed Nantucket and Military stuck with him to Manhattan?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There once was a monster who trashed Nantucket
the townsfolk tried to stay and fight but said F it.

MGP then made his way to Manhattan to find more buildings to flatten.

Jason to bad was smushed by MGP tail, Brooklyn bridge then had an epic fail.

The Army was on scene to bitch slap the beast. Maybe Jamie did not have a problem with kidneys perhaps it was yeast?

Marlena she popped like a balloon. Hud he joked like a buffoon and all Rob could do was think about 39th story poon.

In the end at the park we could see the MGP with it's hideous face and then HUD not only in that place, but that place and that place too.

Where did our precious MGP come from, space or Mariana trench goo? Who really cares in the end, the movie was a blast to be sure.

Going to see Cloverfield 4th time in 20 minutes. YOO-HOO!
