[POLL] Feel incomplete? Want a sequel/prequel?
Vote here!

I feel as incomplete as you do. But nonetheless, very satisfied too.
We are kinda left hanging with questions, but i really think that a sequel or a prequel is gonna be a sham and totally unnecessary.
I really wanna know what you guys think! Laughing

Actually I think they could pull off doing a Military POV sequel, followed by a character dev and Tagruato prequel, and then a final documentary style sequel to tie all three movies together to provide a final assesment on the state of things after the fact.

Of course, this would all be supported by the viral machina . . .

I voted "other" because I'm greedy. I want it all! lol Prequel, sequel and more virals.

However, I wouldn't be dissappointed with only more virals. The movie was so good it can stand on its own, if it has to.

wont that seem like they created something on purpose then having to explain it in clear detail? its like going in a circle.

what made cloverfield so darn god was the mystery and excitement of the virals. doing the prequels, sequels and another pov, would be making this movie so clear cut that people would just watch it to be fed answers and not ty to solve this mystery on their own anymore.
its good too, cause you feel like your a part of rob/beth/hud's world and you really experienced it first hand and you can relate to them.

Prequel would just be easier, from the time the beast wakes up and its epic love story as it makes it way to New York. But 90 minutes of that. :\

Sequel I would have no idea what they could do, destroy more cities.

I agree totally you basicly said what i was gonna lol. And in the sequel you could still feel as if your in the movie the same way it is. You would be following with them about how everything happened and why. Just by a military point of veiw. I would still feel apart of it.

I kinda want what abrams(or someone else said) have a sequel, but it happens at the same time as the current film. Just different group of people, maybe. Could happen with the military, but that would need to be film with 'real' film, it being 35mm or highdef. I would like to see more action with the little parasites that come off of it. That would be nice. Maybe something to do with the international response, it being more mgps' or otherwise. (various political reactions or military help and what not)

And less shaky camera, please. It was nice, but a little much. Given it did tone down some towards the end. Mostly talking scenes, or you know 'reaction' scenes.

In whatever new movie they ultimately end up making (because we all know they will), it best be documentary style. That's what made the movie so exciting. You got a surprisingly large amount of character development , as well as it added a huge amount of mystique, surprise, and exhilaration. It gave you a feel of what it is like trying to be the survivor, rather than the brilliant heroes who destroy the beast. The first-person perspective was played out perfectly. I don't want it any other way.

First of all,I love the movie. That bein said,I want a prequel.I want to see what brought about MGP's creation.I want to see beakers and bunson burners in a lab with all kinds of gross mutated specimens in containment.I want to see what exactly went on at the Chuai station, inside and out.I want to know what the secret of Slusho! and DSN is.I want to see T.I.D.O. trying to foil Tagruato's evil plans.I want to see little freaky creatures popping out of people's chest's.I want to see more chaos and destruction from MGP.I want to know what exactly is MGP.I want to know dammit! And I keep hearin said that we're bitchin because we didn't get answers to a ARG/ARE that never existed, well fine.If that's you're take on it fine.Tell that to the people in the audience who were like,"WTF???So where did the monster come from?Is he an alien? Why is he here?"People that don't have a clue about all the viral stuff are gonna want to know.Take away the game/experience whatever you want to call it.There are still questions to be answered nevertheless.Whether we get the answers in the form of a sequel,prequel,ARG/ARE,manga,hentai,crappy reallity show,Fox News or Jerry Springer is left to be seen.Who the hell knows. All i know is I want a prequel, sequel, something more.I loved this movie and i've already seen it 4 times lol.But c'mon y'all. You know you want more MGP.You know it! Very Happy

The viral campaign will definitely continue regardless if there's another movie or not. Yet, due to the fact the movie's doing so well, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a second one. JJ said he wanted "our own Godzilla", so why not make this into a series? I'd like these:
- A parallel story of another group of people in NYC during MGP's visit.
- A parallel story of a military cam-crew.
- A sequel with a documenter attempting to get to the bottom of what happened

Regardless of which, I'd like it to have the same first-person view. I wouldn't like a prequel so much because it'd almost have to be regular style. If they did the third method, then we could get into the past of what happened as well as what has happened after the incident. Best of both worlds. Hell, they could interconnect that with footage from other people in NYC or from another attack somewhere else.

I think if they did a prequel or sequel,it could be done as a regular feature film (clears throat) IF DONE RIGHT.As we have seen over the years to various film franchises, you have to go with the feel of the movie and story. If they kept the story and cinemetography dark, raw, gritty, and intruiging,it would work.Just like BWPII.It didn't work because the story sucked. Not because it wasn't shot in first person, because it was utter trash.Same for Batman.Tim Burton gave Batman the dark feel that made the first two movies popular.Exit Burton and enter bright colors and George Clooney, well you get my point. It's all about how you do it.I don't think another Cloverfield first person POV movie would work,it wouldn't be the same.I guess we'll just have to wait and see what 'ol J.J. and Reeves come up with. Wink

This what I had in mind. What would be neat is if the "Sequel" also ended with operation "Hammer Down". From the POV of the military, it would be interesting to see what they make of the whole situation.

Did they have advance warning? Do they know where it came from? To where did they evacuate the civilians? What was their reaction to the first "monster bite" victim?

I think there is alot that could be covered with that kind of sequel and it still could be like a "mystery box" as i'm pretty sure the military have no idea what is going on either.

For a Prequel, do the origins of the monster, Tagruato and their evilness, Tidowave with their objectives, and Rob's job application at Slusho. I would end the prequel at that first explosion with the Statue of Liberty head ending up on the street.

Guys. Think about it. A sequel would do harm to the original movie. Cloverfield needs to stand on it's own as a cult film. Seriously. Don't try to jeopardize Cloverfield because you're a little slow and wanted stupid ARE shit in the movie. It was obvious that putting a lot of ARE material in the movie would have hurt the films appeal to normal people.

A sequel WILL hurt the original, more likely than not. If it doesn't, and I'm wrong, than great! But it'll hurt the movie more likely then help it.

EDIT: Just read post before mine.

Are you joking? The ORIGINS OF THE MONSTER? Dude, that'd be the stupidest idea ever. The monster is meant to be mysterious. Part of what makes him so terrifying is that New York didn't know anything about it and never will. Revealing anything about his origins (aside from the ending of Cloverfield) is mind-bogglingly stupid.

Please don't ask for any Tagruato in a squel film, either. That makes the film have a "bad guy" and makes things way too black and white for the kind of movie Cloverfield is. Don't be stupid. Think about it. Really. The monster isn't even a "bad guy". He's more a part of the setting. The focus is always on Rob and the others, never truly focused on the monster and it's rampage.
