I'll be interested to see how well it holds up during the week.

Thanks, I've been waiting for numbers!
I'm thinking about going back to see it again tonight...but I've never done a solo venture to the movies before, so I'm not sure if I should go.

there was so much happening that it is going to lend a second viewing for me.
I also can see this having a cult following that might generate multiple viewings......
how many have already gone at least 2x here?

I'm surprisingly happy to see the movie doing so well. One result of this promotion is that I'm totally engaged by the fortunes of the film. I'm cheering for it, want it to succeed, and am a bit annoyed by reviewers who say mean things about it.

I agree completely, I'm cheering it on.

Sunday isn't over yet. There are still more theathers showing the movie.
Based on those numbers. the movie made 25 million saturday/sunday.
I'm giving it another 2-3 million tonight and about 10-12 million tomorrow making the total for the weekend about 53-56 million.
JJ is already rolling in some money.

That will never happen. Titanic was still playing in theatres when the DVD came out, almost 6 months. I don't think any movie will make close to 2 billion dollars.
I can see Cloverfield making about 300-500 million dollars. DVD sales are going to be crazy though.

If Cloverfield can get attention and get enough people to accept that it's unconventional in terms of filmmaking, I think it could set some much bigger records. It's already looking like it'll be the biggest January release ever. So much for January being the graveyard Cloverfield would die in, having achieved nothing. It at very least would seem to have paid for itself and had some profit already.

My husband didn't want to go see it because "nothing good ever comes out in January". He went begrudgingly, though, and ended up LOVING it.

Awesome. The more money the movie makes, the greater the chance of a sequel. I need more!!!!!

Current (estimate?) for the 4 day weekend is....
$46,037,000 not bad at all. It'll be interesting to see how well the movie does in its entire time in theaters.
