I don't want to rain on anyones parade, I am just as psyched about the possiblility of parallel, sequel, or prequel stories....my one concern is this........As long as the writers guild is on strike there will be no new scripts........so unless JJ and Reeves had planned ahead it could be quite a while before we get anything else......

Does that include films? I thought it was just the tv writers on strike.

I'm already excited for a sequel. Is it out yet? How about now?

I don't know if the Writers Strike will affect this... J.J. and Reeves can probably get Goddard to write a 2nd one if he hasn't ANYWAYS.
if not, J.J. and Reeves could probably just write a 2nd one on their own and have it be equally amazing.

Equally, if not, even MORE amazing.

Exactly.
Still, for a sequel, I personally would like a mix of styles. Let the original movie be its own unique thing... and have the sequal be like, the rest of the info given to Department of Defense.
This could include newscasts, background info, a standard movie filming style recording from the Military... etc...
and have it all end with a powerout followed by a rather familiar roar once everything is explained. End of sequels.

Whose to say they haven't already filmed the sequel?

I personally would be very skeptical of the quality of a sequel. I do not know what else could be shown. All of the main cliffhangers had been answered. The sequel would more than likely either just be a further exercise in shaky camera work (which will feel forced and warmed-over at this point) or go become another big budget special effects bonanza (which will lose the veiled effect of this movie).
I am not saying that it could not be done…but it would have to be effin revolutionary for it to be worthwhile. Looking at Lost and Alias, JJ and co. tend to run things past their prime until they totally peter out so I think that a sequel is inevitable.

First off...... i doubt the writers strike would have any affect on this. The writers guild may have some affect on movies, but many movies are written by a single person or small group of people. So i highly doubt it would have an influence on a sequel........ especially because if the writers strike had an impact... we wouldnt have any new movies coming out right now!!
Also......... i personally think someday we'll see a sequel. JJ said he wanted our own american monster. I doubt its just a one time thing.
But........ JJ has a lot of work to do for Star Trek and Reeves has that Invisible woman project he's working on. So even if there is a sequel....... it wont be for A LONG TIME. Espeicially if we want a movie as good as the first one...... they will take there time with it. Id say at least 2010 before we see a sequel. Just my thoughts

Well not necessarily because many movie scripts are already written.
JLA has been postponed because of the writers strike, many others as well

Bullshit. Stop being such an artsie-flamer. You sound like one of those guys who goes to art galleries and analyzes every painting's meaning and it's profoundness in life, ie That statement has a very pompous and condescending tone to it.
I appreciate Cloverfield for what it is, meant to be, etc, and you sure as hell do not speak for me.
...I want another movie with the Clover-monster in it, just as Abrams said he want's. A franchise.
