It's a fin, not a horn. Assuming that whales go through rigor mortis, much like other animals, I could see the fin being frozen into an upwards position, much like a horse who sticks its legs in the air after it dies.

Okay that makes sense, and yes the imdb is chock full of crazies.
My favorite was someone saying that the movie was homophobic and someone replied
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm pretty sure one of the guys that died on the bridge was gay

I REALLY don't think this picture is NYC
Mahattans South Port is at the foot of the Hudson river, rather shallow and all sorts of activity, pollution, traffic. Not a spot where Whales would traverse. And few beaches there.
Can someone zoom in the boat?

Dont know about that...
Looks like another whale to me, look you can see its tail...and the ribcage is too small for our MGP...(all this has been said before, im sure)
I also dont think the whale on the left/foreground is a spermwhale...Its head and jaw look to small...
The right is a whale. You can see the grooves of a baleen whale's throat in what's left of its skin. Assuming it's taken somewhere on the North Atlantic coast, then it is probably an Atlantic Humpback, which could also explain the weird "claw." Humpback fins are long and oddly shaped.

I'm pretty sure all the whales in the picture are Sperm whales. The two in view definitely are, and the third could easily be seen as the tail end of the whale laying on it's side with it's skin ripped off. The big fin we see looks like half of it's big tail.
The other reason I say these are probably Sperm whales is because Sperm whales are known to dive extremely deep in the ocean, which is little MGP's domain. Plus, they're also seen as being pretty tough as far as whales go, as they pray on giant squid and stuff.
And I just don't see the reason why they'd put several species of whales all up on the same spot. That'd just be... odd. It's more likely that he attacked one single pod of Sperm whale than a couple different individual species of whale that miraculously were in the same exact spot all at once.

Except that these are large, presumably adult. Big male sperm whales travel alone. They could have been cooperating to fight the monster, but I don't agree that the one we can barely see in the lower corner is definitely another sperm whale. It looks more along the lines of a dolphin to me. A marine mammal buffet, if you will. Who knows.

What did u type in the the google search field to find that exact photo of the whale NYC?
Believe I was just searching beached whales...
Actually, to be clear, those are obviously two DIFFERENT pictures - the un-PS'd pic doesnt' have the fin standing up, for one. BUT the comparison is clear; The PS'd pic IS a WHALE just like the one in the virgin pic. However, it is not the SAME source pic.

Necroposts are fine, especially if its a choice between that or a trout.
At unfinction forum its a good thing to keep everything related to a topic in the same thread. (And this thread came up in another thread yesterday, so thats probably where he was pointed to it to read it)
No harm, no trout, no foul
