Possibly the biggest clue of all??
The Timing of The Explosion and the head throwing

Ive been following closely since July like the rest of you. I havent gone through EVERY thread on here so I mightve missed if someone also brought this up...just follow me...

Did anyone notice the attack in lower manhattan happens first then minutes later the statue of liberties head is thrown meaning the monster wouldve been on land first to cause the explosion then went BACK in to the ocean to throw the head?? Then BACK AGAIN to land?? AS WELL as when they are on the bridge and the monster splits it ... the monster HAD to have been in the ocean and then AGAIN back to land??

This could simply be explained like I described above, OR you could stick with the 2 different monsters or 3 or 4 or 5 or whatever else but the fact remains.....We were introduced to the poster which has the head already thrown with a trail leading to the city then attacking which isnt how it happened in the movie. Im guessing its absolutely intentional??

Thoughts?

well a lot of things about the movie can be questioned like that. the only thing that really throws me off is when the Brooklyn bridge got attacked. it seems as though a huge tentacle/ tail/ arm just ran itself right through the bridge. at this point MGP was still thought to be on land, his tail did not seem to be as thick as what took down the bridge either.

so i dont know, im not saying there is more then one monster, but matt reeves did say he was dis-oriented and wanted to know "where mamma was"

My theory, and some peoples on here, is that MGP grabbed the head and threw it later when on land. There could be other possibilities but the multiple monster theory has too many holes in it mostly based on the jets and helicopters flying over the cities. It would be quite difficult to miss the second monster somehow. And the soldier clearly says "it" singular, and he seemed to know what was up.

well I do know that the oil tanker that was tipped over was right next to the statue of liberty and the explosion and the head came from the same exact location. Plus later on when they are on the bridge and Hud pans the camera towards the statue and the tanker they are within two hundred yards of eachother. You can clearly see from the bridge that the tanker is on fire even though before they went on the roof and witnessed the explosion the news broadcast shows it intact. So the series of events would have been earthquake alongside of tipping the tanker, news broadcast of tanker intact, rooftop tanker explosion, running into the street to find the statue head souring towards them from the same direction as the explosion. But when they see the tanker while on the bridge it is destroyed but not enough to have been caused by such a massive explosion plus where did the earthquake come from

It's really a toss up, it's kinda ridiculous how often the monster was always next to rob lily hud, and beth. but me and some friends decided that Manhattan isn't big. haha. but yeah I don't know. . . It could be just 1 monster, I would guess it's just one. I mean like the recording that teddy made for jamie, he did say "they either made or found something"

but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more then one monster.

also if I could scan my picture and show you. The Statue of Liberty is not even that close to Manhattan. is like a blip on the horizon compared to the movie. also there is no bridge near the statue

This has been discussed, but I'll let someone else have a chance to trout it.

The monster is a baby of some sort, and babies often will pick something up and just keep carrying it for a while with no apparent reason. They also like to throw things.

I thought the same thing about the 'tentacle' that whacked it.

I also noticed, however, that you don't see hawk get hit. When lily was screaming 'jason' for a minute I was wondering why someone was screaming 'Nathan' then I Realised she was saying jason, and I was like WTF! I saw a tentacle, but i didn't see him get squashed.

Then, rob was like 'Mom..Jason's dead.' and I was like 'WTF! He could have swam to safety, biotch!'

EDIT:: Also, I think the monster is best summed up by the immortal words of Rob Hawkins:

'Whats that?!'
'A thing. It's terrible.'
'What the hell was THAT?'
'Another thing. Also terrible.

I think the statue's location is such because, like the explosion which also does not makes sense, it was in the RUSHED trailer, and then once all of us started looking into it so deep and became attached ot the images they were probably kept the same in the movie instead of trying to fix it. And with the it being everywhere thing, this monster is big. Manhattan would be like an acre or 2 compared to us(an acre is about the size of a football field, a little less actually). This makes it easy to see the monster being everywhere, which really isn't everywhere, since it is only seen in lower Manhattan and Central parkish unless I am mistaken.

*Edited, my proportions were grossly out of, well, proportions.

The trail in the water is jsut to show that it got there by swimming or walking over because the citys already destoryed ... hes not still in the water if the city has a PATH threw it already

Don't you mean the immortal words of Hudson Platt?

When you hit water from that high up, its the same as hitting concrete, hes dead on impact. Add to that the added force of the monsters whatever it was hitting the bridge, which would probably knock him unconcious and either hes dead from the impact of hitting the water from that height or hes knocked out and drowns. Either way, theres no surviving that. Best guess is the first one. Even from only sixty feet or so up, which im sure the bridge is higher than that, you hit the water with a force of over eighty g's ( G force ), only fifty g's will kill you. So like i said, theres no surviving that drop to swim to safety
