Probably not the best game to mention to someone who is going into a dark, deserted mental hospital. Watch out for bloody, faceless nurses dishboy!
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I prefer to go Silent Hill-style when I explore.
Then I guess I shouldn't tell anyone about what I saw the last time I went exploring an abandoned mental institution...

Unfortunately I live in Belgium. It sounds like loads of fun and really want to try it. Now I only have to find locations and people! Woohoo... hmm...

I'll hide, not to scare sensitive readers.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Me and a friend went to an abandoned mental institution just outside Stockholm. It had several large buildings, all surrounding a large yard. It was all boarded up and we walked between the buildings. It was about 2 am, when I saw something on the large cement yard. My view of the yard was at this time obscured on both sides by two of the buildings. I only saw a strip that was about 10 metres wide. Something big ran across the yard - when it came closer I saw that it was an unaturally huge black hound running in slow-motion . After a few seconds, it was gone. I have never seen a stray dog in Stockholm, before nor since that incident. Odd, that.
Now I think it's time to go on topic again.

I recommend that you also bring:
- An agile backpack
- Two sets of flashlights - which are not handheld, but possible to fasten on your forehead or on your clothes (Silent Hill-style!)
- Extra batteries
- First aid equipment
- Cell phones
- Gloves
- Though, dark clothes and comfortable shoes
- Soft kneepads
- Notepad and pen (for leaving messages)
- Water (to drink and to clean hands and wound with)
- Plastic bags and tape (to put around your feet if you need to go over deep water)
- Camera with fully charged flash (and a DV-cam?)
- A friend with the same set of equipment
Also tell someone where you are going and when you are going to be back. Just in case.
OK, um... I guess I should have made it clear that (at least this time) I wasn't planning on going on a hardcore "urban explorer" style trip. I've never done anything like that before and probably wouldn't have time for it right now anyways. I was just going to go on a light exploration just to see what is there and if it is worth exploring further. Especially since I don't know anybody else who would be up for a detailed exploration of an abandoned asylum, so I'll be over there alone. Maybe after scoping the place out I'd be more comfortable with a more in-depth search, but we'll see what I find...

That's alright. However, I have been in such many situations where I'd wished that I did have that flashlight, didn't have fancy white pants or simple gone thirsty after a walk but found out the hard way that there wasn't any 7-Eleven in the tunnel system.
But you are going to check out the tunnel system, are you?
Oh, I wish I could go with you.

Just got back... interesting trip, but I'm not sure how much valuable information I found. Keep in mind it was just a scouting trip - I basically walked the grounds and looked for anything obvious. I need to eat dinner right now... then I will write up some kind of trip report with the photos...

Phew! Typing up a trip report is not easy. Anyways, here's a link to what I just wrote up, with pictures:

To answer your question Rob: no, I really didn't. Not sure if I found anything useful at all, but I guess it's up for you guys to help me be the judge of that. Happy reading...

dishboy....freakin amazing...awesome job. I can't believe how much you got down in such a short amount of time.
Did anything strike you about the 1929 document? Anything written in it or seem to belie authenticity?

*is quite impressed, and agrees with dishboy that only crazy people would visit a creepy old cemetery just before dark, especially one that appears to be in a dark forest*

I've just been flipping through it for a few minutes, and honestly, I can't see anything. It looks pretty legit to me - seems to be a contract to do some sewer/piping work, and a general plan of how it should be done. It does mention the name "Pillsbury Engineering", which may be worth googling, or maybe the stamp on the inside cover matters - It has a space for Order # and Set #, and they are filled in with pencil - 7 and 3759, respectively. It also mentions some maps, but unfortunately those are missing - maybe they were in later pages that were torn out.
It's entirely possible this was being thrown out with other stuff and somehow just missed the dumpster. Honestly it didn't really cross my mind to jump into the big dumpster and have a look around. Maybe when I get a chance I'll take pictures of all the pages so that I'm not the only one who can have a look. But for now I'm going to bed!

Quick question:
Where did you find that contract?
If it was outside, I don't know what the weather conditions are like over there but... hasn't it rained? Shouldn't that have damaged the document?

Gotta love this thing. Leaves us questioning whether everything is a clue, part of the game, or just a weird coincidence (see ActionSquad).
An explination for all the weird outcroppings:
All of the cottages have pretty much been torn down as well as some of the other buildings do to asbestos insulation and lead pipes. These were primarilly torn down after the ActionSquad visit, so a lot of the buildings that they visited may no longer exist.
