Umm, I don't know what could be seen to determine that.
The wikipedia article, on the other hand, will be something I think we shoiuld collaboratively think about in this thread, as in, what we need to include, what sections to talk about, etc. And we need a generic layman name. But some of this will need to be held off until we know a little more about the monsters creation, relation to Chuai, etc.

Well, the monster was able to stay in some kind of stasis for thousands of years at the bottom of the ocean. Don't certain frogs do that in the winter when lakes freeze over? Don't they hibernate underneath the mud? Frogs are cold blooded, but bears also hibernate, and they are not. Plus, reptiles generally get lethargic in cold temps.
I just had the thought that MGP might be like the cicada.
"When the eggs hatch, the newborn nymphs drop to the ground, where they burrow. Most cicadas go through a life cycle that lasts from two to five years. Some species have much longer life cycles, e.g. the Magicicada goes through a 17- or occasionally 13-year life cycle"

Well, MGP comes from bottom of the sea, which is extremely cold, and has no problems in a far warmer environment so I think it must be warm-blooded.

This basically makes me believe that MGP is endothermic and not ectothermic, as an ectotherm(cold blooded) uses its environment to keep it's temperature regulated, and MGP didn't seem to do this at all(unless it's swims were too cool off from the higher temperature above the water). Endothermic seems the much more likely case, but this article on wikipedia seems to make a case for the opposite also possible.

Ah, yes. So, that means MGP is not an amphibian. Which means we need a new Class designation.

Perhaps Amniota? Which includes the Synapsida class, or "mammal like reptiles." Although, AFAIK, there are no aquatic synapsids. Perhaps an altogether new class, "Abramida?" lol. Stole that from Chrizzy, although he used it for order. Idk.

For a period of time in their evolution, whales were amphibious and are endothermic. No reason MGP couldn't be both basically - but I know the Class Amphibia is supposed to be all ectothermic. Tricky thing this classification when you don't have genomes to compare, eh?

Or even a good picture or model. An autopsy would probably suffice showing anatomy and organs etc. I hope they release an autopsy report of the little thing we saw being carted off!!! That would be an excellent piece of the game.

I think we've got the little bastards (I think I'm gonna keep calling them that from now on, lol) pretty pegged down. MGP is just so exotic.
With the info we have, we can say that MGP doesn't fall within any of the current Classes without altering their definitions to include attributes of other Classes.
So, we need a new Class. Maybe...mirugena (latin for "strange class")

Haha, you guys are great! Thanks for keeping MGP as an inside name for all of us. I am so glad that we have people in here that are able do this whole classification thing. You gotta love the diversity of people who are passionate about a common thing such as this film. This has been by far the funnest thread for me to read. I am truly honored to have witnessed the identification of MGP. Bravo!

I think maybe this discussion will be better fit for a little in the future, most likely when more details about the back-story are released. I like the name Mirugena, it sounds quite cool.
Yes, MGP should stay as a sort of inforum joke, because so far this forum has been insulated(although some are coming through) from idiots. It took me far too long to find this sanctuary!

MGP is listed on Wikipedia. It doesn't have an article, but it's listed...that's cool enough, lol.
I think our discussion's been pretty productive with what we've been able to tell about the monsters so far.
