Found the cache. Inside were a camera (with no back plate), a charger, USB cable, a tissue (to protect the camera back, assumedly, as nothing written on it) and a compass/thermometer/whistle/magnifier/keychain.

Yes the camera had a memory card. No, there was nothing on it.

Found Bill!

Our Bill in New York met intercepted "Zoltan Gerts" who posted on Facebook. He posted about the package in the Cyberdyne Facebook group. (link)

Zoltan wrote:
This is so bizarre that I don't even know where to start. Today as I am leaving work I get stopped in the lobby by a tall hooded man wearing a skiing mask and some kinda goggles that completely cover his face. I am admittedly a little freaked out but there is something about his voice that tells me that he is not some average bum asking for change. He seems to be be in a rush because he is talking very fast. He tells me that he is an associate of my father (whom I have not heard from in over a decade) and that he has a package that I must keep safe no matter what happens. He then mumbles something about a "rogue resistance cell" and something about preventing someone from "compromising the integrity of the code" which doesn't make any sense to me.

I figure I would post about it here because I suspect that my previous post here is somehow connected to this Bill finding me so soon after unless it's some kinda weird coincidence...

Anyway the package is a brown paper bag. Inside the bag there is a thermostat. I unscrew the thermostat and within I find what looks to be a broken canon powershot S100 digital camera, a USB cable, and a charger. There is also an all in one whistle/compass/thermometer thing. Finally there is also a note with the following instruction:

Face North.
Take a photograph.
Contact Enitech Research.

Does this make any sense to anyone here? Who is Bill? How does he know my father? What is Enitech Research and how do I contact them?

Please help.

Sounds like vpisteve will be going back to the Granada Hills drop point in 3 days to take another picture to compare with the one he took, today.

I was going to suggest we check a pic taken with the camera for missing pixels, clues in the image exif data, etc and have him give us the folder structure from the memory card. But that sounds like it won't be necessary, now.

isn't our terminator friend dressed in a similiar fashion? this would contradict our belief as this man Zoltan speaks of appears to be a member of the resistance.

I'd suggest from the drop off point. It's the only location we've been given (Other than the CA one).

Ps. Been following the Unfiction work on this for a little while now. How the HELL you guys managed to crack those Floyd guitar tabs then use them to decode the messages on the Enitech blog I will never know. Colour me impressed! ^^

Go Steve!! Woo!

I'm glad that I didn't get this actually as I'm going to be away. And good job finding Bill. Maybe we can lead him to unfiction?

Not in my opinion. Anyone could make up a story and post it to the Facebook page. I think Zoltan just got really lucky in that he got the package before anyone else did, and decided to run with his roleplaying even more (see his first post).

I really don't want to think that the PMs would be so inconsiderate that they would take away a dead drop like this and give it to one of their employees. What would be next? Solving all the puzzles for us?

New SCC website?

http://enitechlabs.com/blog/?p=68#comment-325

'John's website link takes you here:
http://www.aperturescience.com/
Highlight the page and you see it's complaining about an error on the 'index.php' page.
Add that to the URL bar and you get almost the same page, but without the error message, and you can type stuff in at the prompt

Inputting HELP:
If this is an actual plea for help in response to a hazardous material spill, an explosion, a fire on your person, radiation poisoning, choking gas of unknown origin, eye trauma resulting from the use of emergency eye wash station on floors three, four, or eleven, an animal malfunction, or any other experimental equipment failure, please remain at your workstation. A Crisis response team has already been dispatched to deliberate on a response to your situation.

If you need help accessing the system, please refer to your user handbook.

USER:

Underscore doesn't work - so anna_kies is a dead end as a username.

Also tried inputting terminator, skynet, john connor, sarah connor, handbook, etc.

Then again, the whole things looks kinda generic. If it is an ARG site, it might not be one of ours.

What's fishy to me is that that is the name of the company in the Valve Software game, Portal. From the Half Life/Orange Box.

guitar tab code

Great work! I am new to this and I can see I still have a lot to learn... would never have been able to crack that code myself.

I posted the Aperture Science link as a joke. Portal is also about a rogue AI, strange science, and stuff like that. But it's not a clue of any sort.
