Re: No Key

Dude, that's b.s. You ARE supposed to have a key once you open it.. and I just opened mine also missing a key. I think we've been had!! The only reason I wanted it was for the entirety of the "Adventure", otherwise the damned thing isn't worth much more than $50. I'm calling Sharper Image. This isn't right. Maybe we should get a list of people who opened their's but didn't have a key.

There is no key inside the Sharper Image Isis
When you register your Isis online you'll get access to a web page that gives the following info:
Quote:

Congratulations. You have now joined The Sharper Image Isis adventure.
To begin your adventure, you must first unlock the isis.

If you need help with this, you can access & purchase the decryptions files.

Once you have opened the isis, you will find a 10 digit code.
The 10 digit code is engraved on the inside of the isis.
When you are ready, click 'Enter the code' to continue.

If you would like to take part in the Global Isis Adventure (at www.isisadventure.com), you will need a metal key. The metal key will open Golden Pyramids that are hidden throughout the world. The pyramids contain Gold and Silver coins worth up to £500 each. See Terms & Conditions. You can login to the global website using your existing username and password.

You do not need a metal key to complete The Sharper Image Isis Adventure

You can request a FREE metal key by contacting us at keySPLATsonicwarp.com.
You should include both Isis Numbers within your email, together with your full name and address.

Duplicate keys will be charged at $20.00

Please note there is a $9.00 P&P charge to cover handling and postage of keys, paid to us at paypalSPLATsonicwarp.com

So you can get a "FREE" key for $9.00 Confused

--------------------------------------------

Instead of a key Sharper Image lets you select a "Mystery Prize" online. Then you are given a clue. If you are the first one to figure out the password from the clue you win the prize.

Here's a sample of a clue for one of the "Mystery Prizes"

This PK setup a famous team link that
which has never been found on Palm
Beach since.

Care to venture a guess?

NO KEYS

The ISIS puzzle doesn't have the keys in them any more. They have not had the keys in them for almost a year now (production costs, and problems with keys coming loose in puzzle). If you have opened you ISIS send all you info (numbers in and out of ISIS) to info(at)sonicwarp.com and they will send you a key. There is a charge of $10 which is not that much considering the reward for some of the prizes. Also, you are probably going to spend a lot more than $10 in fuel driving to the pyramid locations, so plan on spending money for this adventure. From ISIS 1 to ISIS 5 I would expect to spend about $2,000 for all the puzzles, riddle guesses, keys, and travels to the pyramids over the years.

The Sharper Image just sells the ISIS, the only thing they have to do with the adventure is the Sharper Image Reward zone if a prize is won from there. Other than that the entire adventure is run by SONICWARP.com

To learn more about the adventure and how to play it go to isisadventure.com/forum

(think the ISIS was tough, wait till you see the riddles) Wink

Also, to open ISIS 5 (est. release 2012) you will need the keys from ISIS 1-4.

Oiling Isis

Warning!!! DON'T OIL THE RINGS!!!!!!!!!

I emailed SONICWARP™ about the difficulty in turning the rings.
I had been using surgical gloves which gave good traction,
but inconvenient. SONICWARP™ suggested using a small amount of oil
- NOT WD40™ or any penetrating oil! I used a small amount of
ELGIN™ WATCH OIL and yes, the rings became easier to turn temporarily!
With the surface of the sphere wiped free of any residual
oil and my hands washed thoroughly, rotation was very easy.
However, within a few minutes a miniscule amount of oil wicks
out to lubricate the rings and my fingers (gloved or not) and
by then, this had the earmarks of having ruined the puzzle
since oil kept wicking out indefinitely no matter how many
times hands and ball were cleaned.

All is not lost! We need to dissolve the oil in the sphere
or make it thin enough enough to let gravity wick out of the
rings to be absorbed by porous medium. One thought would be
to soak in a degreaser solvent (or vapor degreaser) BUT
since the sphere is made of aluminum and most degreasers
are chlorinated or fluorinated compounds like Freons™ or
chlorinated hydrocarbons the risk is high to destroy
(corrode) the the internal (and external) surfaces. AND
Aluminum reacts with these solvents (which are great for
removing oils and the like) to the extent of an explosive
reaction. Other solvent like acetone, alcohol, ethyl acetate,
etc. are great, but are very flammable and rarely used.

"SOLUTION": [Note: We are just talking about ridding the
sphere of any oil that was applied per Sonicwarp's™
Suggestion.] Heating is a very good way to thin the
applied oil(s). I used an absorbant paper kitchen folded
into 4 or so. I placed the sphere on its side so that the
thin spaces between the rings touch touch the paper and
placed them in a standard kitchen oven at 120°C (250°F)
for 4 to 6+ hours, tilting a few times (with kitchen tongs)
the sphere so that all slits between rings get to touch
the absorbant paper towel. This temperature is also helpful
in causing some of these oils to slowly evaporate. At 6
hours, I took out the sphere out of the oven and let it cool.
The paper showed a slight coloration on the paper indicating
removal of the oil. There was a considerable improvement
in ring freedom, but after a while (6 hours) I discovered
that more oil wicked ot to lubricate the sphere and my
fingers. [Mind you, barely 2 drops of oil were used in the
first case and, with all the nooks & crannies, oil deep
inside was slow in reaching the outer slits.] I then
reheated the sphere on the paper towel [to 150°C (300°F)]
and letting the sphere cook for another 6 hours with
rotating & tilting the sphere every hour. After removing
from the oven there was a much smaller indication of oil
ooling on the paper towel. It has been 48 hours and the
rings are still free, but skin oil is the major problem
as it was in the first place before the oil treatment!

SOOOOO!!! Surgical gloves is one choice of turning the rings.
These are inconvenient and problematic with what material
composition if they are latex [allergy] but other materials
are available. I remembered seeing people using "Rubber
Finger Tips" while turning pages or counting [money]. It
took me a while to find these but SWINGLINE™ [Acco™] make
"RUBBER FINGER TIPS". They come in various sizes in boxes
of 12 for about $2.00 per box. I had no real way to equate
their sizes with my fingers. I wanted to cover ALL of my
fingers, but the thumb and index fingers on your dominant
hand are the minimum you need. I ended up purchasing 4 sizes:

SIZE Swingline # Where Used

[Medium] 11-11½ 54035 'Pinkie'
[Med./Lge.] 12 54032 Next to 'Pinkie'
[Large] 13 54033 Index/middle fingers
[Extra Large] 14 54014 Thumb

Swingline™ 1-800-820-6220 www.swingline.com Search on "Finger Tips"
Regarding Latex, Contact Swingline.

From someone who thought the one-minute 'lube job' was a good idea - that good idea lasted
less than 10 minutes and needed a 'one-week' "UNLUBE"!!!!

Cooked!
A Bad Idea

If you thought oiling the rings was a bad idea...you may find that cooking your Isis was an exponentially bad idea!

The heat will likely have weakened the NdFeB magnet (some may consider this an improvement). More critically there's a small chance that the heat may have caused the glue used on the maze cover to have softened and flowed into the maze - perhaps permanently blocking it.

Re: aarrggg

Anybody that's using rubber gloves, oil and baking their Isis for hours could use a few clues.

As to everything that is in the Isis, that can be found HERE.

Re: $10 Key????

I just got a reply by email from Sonicwarp. What a rip off. I didn't get a key on the inside of my ISIS, so I had to email them with the numbers as instructed on the website. Now I get a reply that there is a $10 shipping and handling fee for the key.

That key can't weigh but a few onces and they want $10. Rip Offff Time.

I'm done. That should be included in the original price of the puzzle.

Well, I argued with them over email for a week and they conceded in sending me the key for free. My logic overwhelmed them I guess. I just received the key today and guess what........

The freaking key does not fit into the puzzle. It's about 1/2" (12 mm) too long. It's a cute and neat looking key with all kinds of groves and cuttings on either side and both ends.

But the key is way too long to fit into the puzzle. There is a line scribed across the key at the proper length, but not cut. Maybe they goofed and sent me both halves of the key? When I was supposed to only get part? Maybe they keep the other half for verification later?

Ahhhh. who knows what goes on at "Puzzle Palace" there in the UK.

I got the key, so I'll just keep it in the box.

End of Story.

I seem to be having the same problem as a few other people, and i need some advice. I have already successfully opened the Isis. And, thinking that it would be just as easy the second time, i closed it back. I put all of the bb's in there respective places but now i am questioning if i put it back together the right way.

When i release the 3rd bb i can hear it spinning around and sometimes it sounds like it is in the maze, but the second i tip the isis upside down the bb locks back into place. Is that normal or have i put the isis back together wrong?

I would appreciate some advice because i really do not want to pay sharper image $50 to fix it.

Thank you
You can email me at mrmarkpowersSPLAThotmail.com
