well like I said, I don't really know my way around NYC, I did what I could with google Earth, stock images and the trailers.

Personally, I would have chosen a different color than blue for the last picture depicting the group on the ground heading for the choppers. Using the same color from the Statue of Liberty from the first pic just makes your "project" all the more confusing. In fact, I think you should take the original pictures, add legends for the colors on each map and use violet or purple for the gang on the ground in central park. There are more colors in the visible spectrum, ya know!

Great work but while in the helicopter watching the monster from above they looked out the left window as I recall. I'm pretty sure the monster was below and to their left or atleast thats the angle from the copter. Confused

I'm trying to develop a map of the monster's movements during the night.

I'm having some trouble remembering key locations (note to self: bring a notebook the next time you see the movie).

So far, I've got these locations:

1. Liberty Island
2. Tagruato Tanker Site (roughly)
3. City Hall Park (location where Statue of Liberty head thrown)
4. Woolworth Building
5. 401 Broadway Ave. (building head bounces from)
6. Rob's Apartment
7. Brooklyn Bridge
8. Sephora (Lily's breakdown)
9. Electronics Store
10. Spring St. Station (the 6)
11. 59th St. Station (Bloomingdale's?)-Army Base/Hospital
12. Columbus Circle/Time Warner Center (Beth's dad's place)
13. Evacuation Point: 40th & Park
14. Greyshot (the bridge in Central Park)

I'm missing the location of the evacuation site (I can't remember what the soldier said) and the helicopter crash site. Is there anything else I'm missing?

I think this is the road they run down towards the choppers, alongside 59th Street Bridge.
You should get an interactive street view with that link if you have the right software installed.

So to track the monster's movements:

Where did it initially come on shore? Can we use the movie poster as a reference? There are buildings in the movie poster that are damaged that I don't recognize. Plus, the Statue of Liberty does not face Manhattan.

From what I can ascertain, the monster came ashore in the area of Battery Park. Did it travel up Broadway to City Hall Park or did it go up the east side of Manhattan and then cut west to City Hall Park? Our first glimpse of it is as it crosses Broadway behind the Woolworth Building which it shortly knocks down. Then the monster progresses up Broadway but to where? It heads back down Broadway at some point and ends up in the East River where it destroys the Brooklyn Bridge. Our group runs into it again at the corner of Spring St. and Lafayette St. We later see it heading towards the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle west on 58th St (?).

Edit: So the evacuation point is 59th & 2nd?

D'oh, I couldn't get Street View to work for some reason. This will help immensely.

Just tell me when you get to the part where you instantly teleport from Broadway to Orchard Street without cutaway. THEN I'll be interested.

Trying to map the path of the monster would be impossible simply because the movie revolves around the people, not the monster, over a period of 7 hours.

Here's a map of Manhattan with the locations of the major events that occured in the movie:

That is pretty cool man. It feels like John Madden on cloverfield I even started imagining his voice when I was reading it.

Then BOOM Mister Grumpypants goes right down the middle and takes off four heads right there.

First off great thread.

Cloverhead22, nice map with the exception of one thing. Robs Apartment can't possibly be in that location. That is the north west corner of City Hall (Park). btw, 401 broadway is exactly one block south of Canal Street which is about 9 blocks north of that point on your map (about half a mile).

Which brings up a load of questions. If the Statue of Liberty's head bounced off of 401 Broadway that means Robs Apartment has to be north of that. So looking at the angle in which it hit and came down it would seem that Rob's apartment is about 3-6 blocks north of 401 Broadway, placing it about or near Howard Street/Grand Street in the SOHO area. Which doesn't explain why they would go south toward the mayhem to get to the Brooklyn Bridge when both the Williamsburg Bridge and the Manhattan Bridges are closer.

Its cool ttrying o combine both this thread (with the maps) along with the timeline thread.

They panicked? They're not native New Yorkers, and we don't know how long they've been in New York. They could have just thought of the first bridge that came mind. Or it was a lazy writer who thought no one would know Williamsburg or Manhattan Bridges, and went to the one with the most name exposure?

My question is, when did MGP have time to knock over Beth's place and get back to take out the Brooklyn Bridge?

Looking at the movie poster and well it looks to me on the poster at least the entry point is in the World Trade center district.

On the poster on the sides of the entry point are the two buildings with the distinctive roof tops. While looking at photos of Manhattan from above the two buildings are in the WTC section of the city. Could just be for the poster but that looks about the entry point.

Actually, the buildings of the WTC complex are located at the far left of the poster. The location the monster enters Manhattan is Battery Park. From there, it looks like it either goes straight up Broadway or stumbles around the east side of Manhattan before getting to City Hall Park.
