I don't think a petition is needed. They are going to make a sequel.

And four SAW movies. And however many Friday movies. And however many Baldwin brothers. Just kidding about the Baldwins.

Seriously. You guys need to realize the Cloverfield movie wasn't meant to answer your stupid "questions" or to complete the ARE. Hell, people need to stop whining so much about the ARE not matching the film. It compliments it decently, is that not good enough? The movie kicked ass, shouldn't that be enough? Why are you so damn greedy?

We know a sequel is coming, that doesn't mean we should accept it or welcome it. You guys are a disgrace and don't deserve Cloverfield if you want to welcome a sequel that will ruin it.

I'm not going to actively support a sequel/prequel, but IF and WHEN they make one, I'm hoping they use it to explain some questions, and then END the franchise right there, with somewhat of an open ending, like you hear the monster roar and then it cuts to black. People would be happy because 1) it explained the backstory 2) the monster is still there 3) that would be a kick-ass way to end a sequel... at least i think it would. Razz

Done

I am in the camp that definitely wants a sequel. So I added mine coming in at #72.

Rock on Clover! Tear it up!

EDIT IN: AFTERTHOUGHT: That said, we could give JJ some credit for being able to make a decent, novel sequel...it could have a far different POV, answer some questions and raise others. I think most of you guys threatened by the idea of a sequel or finding that disturbing are unintentionally presuming that all sequels will end up in the same category as all the stupid sequels that just cash in instead of actually following up on a story...like the Halloween, F13, Nightmare, Jaws and all those other ones.

I liked all the SAW flicks because it kept the overall story going. None of them outmatched the original but they were still good standalones.

Abrams is good at what he does. I agree there's probably a sequel in the works but give him some credit at least for being capable and willing to put something new out there that's novel and interesting and not run of the mill. Can we say Cloverfield? Laughing

Are you sure you understand the film? The movie is about Robert Hawkins and his companions. We aren't owed backstory regarding the monster. That's not the point. The monster is part of the setting, regardless of whether or not anyone likes that. And we know the monster is still alive at the end. Normal people might not reverse the whisper at the end, but we all know what it means. Shouldn't that be good enough? The film answers all the questions it needs to, thus, it can stand on it's own as a brilliant film.

Also, if anyone responds with "Abrams wanted to make an American Godzilla series" post, I will kill someone. That is bullshit, and does not reflect the style and content of Cloverfield.

For what it's worth, we sat to the very end to see the credits and hear the thing on there, along with about a third of the ones in the theater, and I had to laugh at all of us...at least I didn't feel like the only dork left in there just waiting to hear a split second recording!

We're such nerds!

I seriously doubt that an online petition was the driving force behind making 4 jaws movies or 4 saw movies.

I'm eagerly awaiting someone to contact me back and prove me wrong..

Geez pally, who pissed in your Cheerios?

You don't support a thread or its intentions, thats fine. Quit posting in it to bump it up. You have a right to your own opinion and what YOU feel the style and content of Cloverfield should be, just the same as anyone else. Now how about stopping the rain on other people's parade?

Hey man I liked Mission Impossible III which was directed by JJ, hell I even liked Die Hard 4 (unrated version) not directed by JJ, which got bashed by many critics and fans alike. Everyone is entitled to their opinion just you have the choice to choose paper or plastic at the store...hell I tell them to bag them with both! Ya know why? Because I can. Stick it to the man.

Right back at ya my friend. Spread the love.

Now onto the sequel, I'd like to see the big budget, explosions, military, warcrafts, scientists, Tagruato, Slusho, monsters, people getting chomped, blood, people screaming fuck alot, people shitting their pants, background info, and Hud. Rate the damn thing R because there is no way I'd be PG-13 while everybody is getting decimated and my friends are being eaten. They should blow like $130 million and give everybody what they want.
