[SPEC/QUESTION] When was the party? Alright, so this is my first venture into this forum since last year, so bear with me if I'm not used to organizing things the UF way anymore.
Saw the movie twice, loved it, and COMPLETELY MISSED everything Viral-wise. So I've spent the last day and a half researching, and I'm pretty confused. But, it seems people are questionable about the continuation of the Cloverfield universe.
I checked the dates, and it seems that Rob's Going-away party (the actual one) is held on May 22, 2009. That gives us a year and a few months until something big could happen. So I'm sure this'll last.
But then I started thinking - did everything line up? I can't really tell if the characters are treating May 22, 2009 as the ACTUAL party date. But what's more reliable, the movie or the online information?
I have no idea what to think right now. But what I want to know right now, is this - are all the characters online acting accordingly?

Just to confuse you more...
There's also speculation that the movie took place in may 2007 and the camera was found in January of 2008. Because Rob had been up all night, he may have completely screwed up the date, since the next Saturday, May 23rd won't come untill 2009. May 23rd may be the last date he can pull out of his brain right then. Stress screws with your mind. I never know what the actual date is.

When the party was going on, the date was shown to be the 22nd. But the year was never shown - I've just seen 2009 on a couple sites.

That's because Rob says Saturday, May 23rd. The next time that comes up will be 2009.

I'm a newbie here, but this is my theory on the different dates. Did you ever consider that maybe since Jason didn't know how to work Rob's camera, the preset date was just wrong? It happens all the time with my video recorder.

Nonsense. SD cards can now be written over.

Yeah, that's a really big plothole there. There's gotta be some reason for it, though.

Now that I think about it, those things could be explained by a technological advancement. I mean, look at iPods. Those get thinner and thinner, yet bigger and bigger in size.

ScubaSteve!!!
I totally agree... if there was ONE thing about the movie (which I thoroughly enjoyed) that I couldn't stand, was that the battery was like, AMAZING. As an amateur filmmaker myself, I was wondering which camera has this amazing battery life, that never even seems to be an issue, even with NUMEROUS starts and stops of the camera.

On the Tagruato page nothing happened in monster sorts when the trip was taken. Can't make a gang of people from a monster. So I'm thinking the movie was a recording of future events.
