No but it is possible that they did manage to badly injure the mother, which could lead to it bleeding to death.

I have a theory that the mother(and possibly other monsters ariund the world) was captured and used to do something(possibly slusho as i have said before). And in Kishin they are towing it to dispose of it(thinking it's dead) when it comes back to life and damages the ship, The ship enters NY habour to get repairs. baby MGP wakes up and can't find his Momma so he goes looking for her, and using its great sense of smell traces his mom to the Chuai station, Not finding it he destroys it(although he's a bit small) and then follows the smell all the way to NY where he proceeds to destroy the tanker after again not finding her, he then proceeds to walk on land searching for her.

That or the mother Destroyed Chuai in search of her baby, whatever destroyed the station was BIG, bigger than MGP could have been.

Silly me, I thought it just chomped on some whale on it's way to the states creating a lot of blood in the ocean and causing some nasty whale carcus to wash upon land.

I guess I didn't read enough into it.

Lol...Well it is gonna be cool when we find out more stuff. I mean there are still more Kishin comics to come.

Hopefully eventually we will have the answers and we won't have to wait 5 years for anything like in LOST, but then again it is JJ

My theory is that there is no mother.

J.J. didn't mean a literal 'baby'

rather it awakened and found itself surrounded by frightful/terrifying things.

most people are taking the "baby" statement in that interveiw out of context if your going to say that its a baby you also have to beleive thats its a circus elephant and has horse eyes, all which are mentioned in the same statement as the infamous baby sentence.

I'm deriving info from the Manga here, but -

Oil Tanker Drags Monster - Monster Feeds on Seafloor Stuff - Tanker Makes it to NY - (and this is where the movie comes in, with the report on the Tanker capsizing) Monster Rises and knocks Tanker.

Again, remember that news report right after the first rumblings? That Tanker = Taraguto tanker from manga.

As to why the monster's actually there...don't ask me.

Sorry to ruin your fun, but the ship dragging MGP in Kishin is a battleship, not a tanker. I'm not saying the idea that MGP followed the tanker is wrong, I'm just saying that what's going on in Kishin is not right before the events in the movie. I'm guessing that the events that happen in Kishin are earlier than the attack on New York City (Afterall, issn't it a confirmed prequel to Cloverfield?).

If we really want to find out why the monster came to New York, we should wait for future chapters of Kishin. I'm sure that they will explain so much more about MGP and his reasons for going to New York City.

Personally, while I'd love to believe the conspiracy theories, with Ganu drawing the Monster to NYC while he could watch like a sick freak, I would not be surprised if the producers went with the "scared" theory, in which the monster more stumbles upon the city and rampages out of complete and utter fear.
