Hey Jaded, don't leave! I've respected your opinions since the day I joined, even if they differed, and seeing that Slusho hat roll down the screen as I'm searching through posts always attracted my attention. Will you be joining in the Star Trek or Dark Knight ARG's, at least?

I agree with you that most members have just joined this thing, there's tons of join dates in January. But they can discuss the movie, which I've done with plenty of my other friends already. It's time to move on to a new game, that they don't have the experience for (unless they are lurkers for some reason.)

I don't think the sequel discussions are any sort of imperative to having satisfaction with the film. I don't think it necessarily represents a dissatisfaction with the viral experience and it's relatively minor relationship with the film. I would say it's more representative that people enjoyed both and would like to see more of the same. That's perfectly natural. Some may want such things to fulfill what they feel wasn't, but I'd say they are the minority. Of course, I sense the psychological phenomenon of transference in the repeated assertions by some that others are frustrated with the 'failed game' and 'total lack of tie-in'.

I don't honestly know why. People act like this ARG was a waste of time.

It wasn't at all. Just because the film didn't mention Chuai Station doesn't mean it didn't exist or ever happen. This was simply a backstory, and if you didn't like it, why continue to want for it to continue?

And I'm not directing this at you, Euchre, event hough I quoted you... just this place in general.

I've just kind of thought of the movie as another puzzle piece (a really big one). I think that J.J. might have even said something to that effect (Where? Don't ask this lazy bastard).

Re: Enjoy the movie for what it is.

I second that! I respect the filmmaker's choices - they could have half-assed this film by shooting it on DV or something, but they shot it on film, added fx, and then downgraded it, rather than the blair witch cheapo stuff. And I must say, this has been the most excellent freaking marketing for a film i have ever seen! My theater cheered when the film started AND when it was over. I dont think ive ever seen that before, so why rip it apart for details?

It was actually filmed on a Handycam, if I'm not mistaken.

Also, Speculation is part of the experience, as many here have said. If some people want to talk about the movie, what's wrong with that? Oh, I'm sorry if I've got some questions that want to be answered, or some things to say that I think are pretty cool. Jeez, dude.

Ah, when I said Handycam I should have said Camcorder-type camera.

I didn't feel it was directed towards me, more like it was in agreement with me. I feel much as you do, that there's enough little hints to tell us that what we know from the viral is true and a depth that the rest of the audience and the characters themselves don't know.

according to the seller it was filmed on this:Long eBay URL

The film was shot with 3 different grades of HD DV cameras. One was a consumer model, another a mid-range 'semi-pro' model, and the last a full professional model. I'm not sure that item they are selling is even one of the models used, but unless that person is listed in the credits AND can prove they are who they say they are, I wouldn't even venture a bid on that camera. Seems to me that it'd be property of Paramount Studios, and thus a stolen item.

Chill out on all the "theories" and "sequal" ideas. You need to calm down and enjoy the movie for what it is and what we know about it. THats the whole thing about this movie, its supposed to be a mystery.

Sorry, had to do it, but seriously, this whole forum has been all about speculation about information that has given us pertaining to the movie and the whole universe of Cloverfield... and now that the movie is out?

Yes, expect more.

Much more.

I dunno. The Star Trek movie is interesting. As for this I'm fine with people coming in and discussing. By all means it's not like I can tell people what to say or do.

It's just that for my part if a sequel occurs, I want that to be a natural progression from genuine interest and above all I want it to be a quality event. Not rushed or some obligatory cash in scheme because the rabble wants it.

Basically I don't want some cheap knock off Phantom Menace quick fix.

I guess I'm one of those guys who really cared more about the characters and their stories. About the Rob and Beth angle rather than the monster. After that phone call when you see the look in Rob's face in the movie to me the monster was just background.

I'd love to know what happens next, but at the same time I'm happy kinda making my own ending. It's like I was fine when the Sopranos ended. I'd like to believe as people sometimes we can fill in our own blank spaces without being led around by the nose.
