Like your mom?

Seriously, that's just basic film formula.

Original idea presented to audience.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is an amazing example of a successful sequel.

This is gonna be a franchise whether you like it or not.

+Jaws
+Jurassic Park
+Rocky
+Predator
+Alien
+Nightmare on Elm St.
+Friday the 13th
+Tremors
+Indiana Jones
+Godzilla
+Sin City
...

I could seriously go on.

The fact is- there's gonna be a sequel, unless J.J. Abrams/Matt Reeves say otherwise... And from what I've gathered- they haven't.

Will it suck?

It has a possibility to do so, but honestly- as a Cloverfan, I'm probably gonna invest my time/money into that as well because I know that in my eyes, as long as they have the same basic instruments that made the original Cloverfield what it is, I'll be fine w/ that.

I think it's sad that so few here either agree that a sequel will ruin Cloverfield, or that so many that agree are unwilling to voice their opinion.

Ruin Cloverfield?! How can we have our own Godzilla if there's only ONE FRIGGIN' INSTALLMENT!

Geez pally, who pissed in your Cheerios?

You don't support a thread or its intentions, thats fine. Quit posting in it to bump it up. You have a right to your own opinion and what YOU feel the style and content of Cloverfield should be, just the same as anyone else. Now how about stopping the rain on other people's parade?

Rolling Eyes

Duly noted, but as a member of this forum, I can express my "opinion on the style and content" in any post I deem relevant. Also, my "opinon" on the style and content of Cloverfield is correct.

Alright. Did I ever say this petition had any impact on the possibility of a franchise? No, sir I did not. And I'm not sure if you've realized it, but Cloverfield is not the same kind of movie as Star Wars.

Now, having seen that you're a bit slow (with the "your mom" comment and comparing Cloverfield to Star Wars), I'll say it slowly and in caps:

YOU. ARE. HILARIOUS.

Please don't tell me that you really want MGP to become Godzilla? Are you sure you understand what that means? You want a sequel where MGP fights big giant insects/three-headed dragons/mechanical MGPs. Godzilla is a joke in America, you do realize that, right? Think about that before you want Cloverfield to be our Godzilla.

We didn't say we wanted it to be Godzilla, J.J. did.

Oli:

I know that very well. What I meant was, I was responding to the posts of people that can't wait for multiple sequels. I believe Abrams meant he wanted to make a Godzilla film in the sense of how important or significant the film was in it's debut. What the sequel-crazies on this forum are demanding is a Godzilla film featuring MGP. They want to see MGP fighting other monsters and see scientists explaining everything that makes MGP tick. Add a couple Slusho! references and throw the Tagruato logo around a couple times, and they don't care about whether or not it sucks. That's what I mean. I know what JJ said, and I know what Cloverfield is, REGARDLESS of that comment. And you know what? Cloverfield isn't an American Godzilla.

I would pay money to see MGP versus Mecha-MGP.

Not a lot of money, but some.

Actually, I believe Cloverfield is a modern Godzilla. If you apply all the issues of today, etc, and added them into Godzilla, you would get Cloverfield.

Some examples would be good right about now. If Cloverfield is an American Godzilla, than you should explain how.

In Godzilla, the monster's origin was explained as a product of nuclear weapons used in Japan. In Cloverfield, we have no such origin for our monster.

Also, Cloverfield isn't the same kind of movie, as I've said before. The monster isn't the focus at all and mankinds struggle to defeat him/her isn't the point either.

Seriously. Not being condescending. Since you're actually intelligent and capable of reason, I'd like to know what you mean.

Ok, imagine someone in the movie 'Godzilla' running around with a video camera. Just some guy, and maybe a couple of friends.

Now, watch that footage and you have Cloverfield.

You do know we aren't talking about the experience and the idea, right? We're talking about the movie. The FILM, man. What you said, would be creating a Japanese Cloverfield. Do you get it?
