Okay, alright already. The panasonic camera can't record even close to 90 minutes due to battery life. Rob probably had a professional level camcorder in a closet due to his job. The military would likely put any recovered recording on a data CD or DVD because it's easier to archive and view. Hud clearly recorded over the earlier video, so there weren't any digital files involved.

The reason why the Department of Defense copied the video to an SD card was to confuse you. There was absolutely no intention of the producers of this movie to have you associate the Panasonic camera that only records to SD cards with the format the video ends up on, that was just a huge coincidence. Paramount has never before promoted Panasonic's camcorders in any movies before, not even that Lara Croft one.

But above all else, there was no possible way that mistakes could have been made in the production of a feature film.

Re: The "flashbacks" were the result of recovering data

I think this was well-established before.

Also, I never said I cared. Last time I checked this was an internet bulletin board. Anyone who is here, by definition, has no life. You have even less of a life if you are criticizing people for having no lives after reading their posts. I'm actually at work, in between customers, effectively getting paid to write this. I don't know about you, but I'm actually having fun. If you're not, go do something else.

Could have been a SD/Tape handy-cam. My sister just got one.

That's great. What model is it? As far as I'm aware, all HD cameras that use SD cards and tapes do not allow the video (only stills) to be captured to the SD card. But if a camera like you are talking about exists, where it does both simultaneously somehow, I'd like to know what it is.

Even if this was the case though, the dude wouldn't be freaking out about the video being recorded over.

You guys take all this shit way too seriously.

There's a 30 story monster with freaking parasite spiders killing and eating people and destroying all of New York, and you can't believe that a SD card can get written over or a camera battery can last forever?

Jesus!! The SD card got written over?!?!? THIS IS BULLSHIT!

No, *you* are taking this thread way too fucking seriously. I'm just having a casual discussion about a minor aspect of this movie. It's you people who are misinterpreting it as if I'm taking this seriously. Just because I write complete paragraphs and make reasoned arguments does not mean I actually care about this shit, k.

The DOD had to recover data from several badly damaged cameras. This camera's location was covered with dirt, stone, remnants of trees, and assorted detritus, fused concrete, rebar projectiles from nearby, destroyed buildings.

Cubic interpolation is used during missing segments of data. Unfortunately sometimes "headers" for files are corrupted and errantly end up obviously out of sequence to the human eye, but beyond the scope of the software.

Please excuse the occasional "flashbacks," which unfortunately add a sense of irony to the video of case designate Cloverfield.

OK let me get this straight. They had to reconstruct the video from an SD card that underwent a nuclear bomb's EMP blast, yet every frame of video was perfectly preserved, just got mixed with another file slightly? Great theory, man.

Anyway onwards and forwards.

In conclusion after re-watching the first minutes of the film in which it says "Camera recovered at site..." I have concluded that the camera used could have been a tape camera because there is a way to record in "LP" mode on HDV camcorders, which will allow for up to 120 mins. Also, magnetic tapes would not be affected by an EMP blast, such as a nuclear bomb lets off. And, all the dialogue and editing suggests tape. Then it was transferred to SD-card at DoD as another poster suggested. Then Panasonic paid them to put SD-1's in the promo stuff. That's all I can think of as a consistent explanation.

sd card has info on it - impossible
its all a dream - possible.

dude youre really reaching. and youre really retarded.

Knowing how commited he was to his theory? He probably did, but let's not jump to conclusions.

Hehe

Well this was a good laugh...

Why couldn't it be a fictional camera that records using HD Tapes? I'd buy that.

Camera

The camera could have been the HDC-DX1 which looks exactly like the HDC-SD1(except for the battery) and uses tape.

Isn't the movie closer to just 1 hour...?
I just woke up so I'm feeling lazy or I'd look it up. Yeah.

I dunno, I just remember during my second viewing, I looked at my phone after the previews were finished and it was about 2:23, and the movie ended around 3:30.
Unless I'm going crazy. I was still there until like 3:40 watching the credits.

Okay, so I lied. And I did look it up. Runtime says 1:24 or something like that. Well, the credits are about 10 minutes long I reckon, so the movie really is closer to an hour.
Unless I'm way off in my estimate of the credits.

Either way, it's not as far off from a real SD card as people are saying.
