That was not the Tag satellite, it was the monster. This has been confirmed in multiple interviews. Please search next time. There are multiple threads about the satellite.

It wasn't the monster, Abrams said the monster had been down there for thousands and thousands of years. Reeves said that it relates or is a clue to the monster origin, or its discoverers, Tagruato.
But didn't Hud say the final scene contained a view of the monster's origins?
That could've possibly meant that it's origins had to do with the satellite, not necessarily that that was an alien descending upon nyc.
Also, i tend to believe the theory that those not following the ARG could determine that that was the alien, and those following the ARG could see it as the tag satellite. Sort of satisfies all those who are viewing it (even though it really just creates more questions for those of us following the ARG )

If you go back to the first page towards the bottom you can see that Everything's Magic realized the mistake.

Sorry that was more for emperor than it was for you. I get what you're saying.

What I hate is having to explain over and over again that it wasn't the monster that fell to people who didn't follow the viral campaign.

No but I know it's not the monster itself.

Read page 2 of this thread....it's a chunk from another Japanese spacecraft that a Tag satellite was watching in space. The Japanese "spacecraft" was the ChimanzeeIII sat.
I know it's convoluted but a lot of us have discovered all of these little tidbits by following the ARG/ARE since July.
Good to get new viewpoints as well.

Do you think the viral marketing made more people see the movie or do you think it made more people dissappointed in the movie?

Both actually.
A lot of the dissapointed people could and can be found in both groups, ARGers and non-ARGers for varied reasons.
I personally ARGed the hell outta this since day one, and I loved the movie. I made sure that I took in the movie independently from the ARG. Then afterward, started putting it all together. I believe that is why dissappointment for me was never an issue.
Hope that helps.

I'm with you, I loved everything about this movie.
At times, the online stuff was annoying but it gave you something to look at everyday while waiting for this movie. I do have to admit I'm tired of the monster/satellite falling out of the sky argument.
Until there is an answer, I'm sticking with it being Chris Angel the Mindfreak we all see falling from the sky.

According to Hatsui data, it disappeared into the Atlantic Ocean late last week." Quote from Tagruato website.
My first question is what would make a piece "fall" off a satellite? Was there some type of collision in space? If so, what was the collision with? A meteor, comet, another satellite, UFO that cruised by Texas? What if it was a meteor that was the cause of the collision and some organic material was transferred onto the rogue piece and was able to withstand entry into our atmosphere and grow in the deep sea environment with the help of DSN? What is the significance of the chimp holding the cheese flag at the end of the Slusho! commercial, "ChimpanzIII with bacteria"? Maybe this latest event is just a repeat of a similar event that took place thousands of years ago and Tagruato's drilling initiated the awakening of the growth process.
This post makes a lot of sense to me. The random Chimp at the end...holding a flag with Cheese on it...for a split second.
ChimpanzIII being the name of the satellite. It seems like a connection to me.
I know Cheese was a guise name for the movie for a period of time, maybe...they're saying ChimpanzIII brought Cheese. Or the monster. Or that it's the reason behind the awakening/attack.
I dunno. Just thinking.
