My theory: When John Locke didn't press the button all the metals got sucked you know? So maybe the magnet pulled the Tagruato satellite down and woke up the monster. (JJ said that the satellite did wake up the monster, somewhere I believe)

This theory is actually better and more thought out and more justifiable than most theories floating around. Still conjecture, but cojecture based on something we can prove.

Again, I restate the opinion that the DHARMA logo is too substantial, and the placement of it on the title card of the video is more important than a slusho t-shirt on heroes. There's wink wink and then there's slap in the back of the head.

Of course, I know since I won't leave this supposed connection alone, I am risking my own slap in the back of the head, hardyhar, but still...

And then I ALMOST talked myself out of this whole mess the other night. If JJ has said that this movie is a "youtubing" of the Godzilla myth, then that would mean that the government tape got leaked and downloaded all over the world. Perhaps, everyone has a copy of this horrible evidence on their hard drive. Which led my buddy to say, "Yeah. Um, maybe you're just watching DHARMA's copy of the tape. From their library."

/sigh

You know, I already have a hobby. I guess I might need another. Very Happy

I liked your post, but for the record I think that the "youtube" comments simply meant that it seems like it was made by a regular guy. I don't really get your connection, but I suppose it's feasible, if (in this alternate reality) the government leaked the tape, plus there would be tons of other news and home-made footage floating around the world.

Also, while the Dharma copy of the tape idea is insanely cool, it doesn't really make sense. They probably wouldn't flash it, subliminally, if they were letting people know they owned it. Razz

You cant even downplay the slusho t-shirts dude...That is how most of this all got started...the logo may have something relevant but i doubt its more than a "look at this ooo now what?" type of thing...Just to get what we've already started going

I feel ya. I JUST WANT IT TO BE TRUE! I know it's probably nothing. Damn it.

Haha, good point. Now I can throw that in my friend's face. Because while I am seemingly one of the more LOSTERFIELD peeps on this, my buddy is going insane with it. Anything I can do to warp him a little more is totally worth doing. Very Happy

Trust me I want this VMC thing to start becoming HUGE too...but I think lost has too much of a head start for anything to be tied into something that complex...easter egg, probably nothing more, but that sucks

Zing!

Well, the Cloverfield timeline is already being disputed among some, without even throwing in the disputed Lost ties. So... Keep going.

To maybe sort of shoot down the idea that the Button pulled down the satellite...there's a definite Timeline for Lost, correct? Not including the flash-forward stuff, of course. Whereas we have to assume that Cloverfield
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
takes place in 2009, according to Rob's statement in the final scene
.

Even if
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cloverfield takes place in 2008...it's still a couple of years ago in Lost time, right? At least, it was when the button quit being pressed

While I think there's a lot of great ideas and credible stuff coming out of this thread, I gotta say, I don't think there's a tie-in. They do this sort of thing in videogames all the time: Metal Gear Solid has one boss talk about other games you've played (by reading your memory card) despite there being no real tie-in to the MGS universe. Final Fantasy VI has two pilots named Biggs and Wedge, which can be seen as a tie-in to Star Wars, but of course, it isn't. Even the Onimusha series lets you dress up as Street Fighter characters.
My point is, people who build series like this (myself included) love adding in little things that tie their work together. Why? It's a trademark, of sorts. Having a common item or character appear in all your works makes it feel cohesive and distinctly 'you'. The problem with the Cloverfield/Lost combo is that both of these things are already massive suspense circle-jerks, and this addition--while most assuredly a red herring--is ultimately frustrating to people actively trying to sort out the mystery. It's still really cool that they do it, but I think it's distracting people from the information at hand. Remember: People in Heroes drink Slusho! as well, and we didn't see anyone flying around and fighting the monster with time-stops and a katana.

I could see it happening. In the new season these strangers arrive to look for something on the island. Maby the Dharma is a division of Taragato and before they were killed they found something on the island thats linked to MGP but it's not directly mentioned what it is in the series, just implied. So this new group gets away in the end with a llittle bit of information on what they were looking for and you can pry figure out the rest.
