my theory on Cloverfield using the name of the film If you didnt know, a clover is actually a weed. The reason you see a patch of clovers is because it spreads like one. A field of clovers is it being spread already in a grassy area.
My theory is the same as others, that the monster was awaken and seems to either bite or eat people... but when bitten, people actually turn into a monster-like form resembling it( am using the 2 monster spec. larger one destroying the city, the one at the end of the film being a human transformed). Since the beginning said this was a govt. film from a recovered SD card, the time frame of the govt doc is based in the future. Hence this is just the beginning of the outbreak we see in the film and has since grown into a so called field of clovers?
just a thought.. not that im thinking im right, just wanted to throw it in

fair enough try. but tis already established that cloverfield is just a street near one of the producers' office.
As far as everything else, those and similar ideas are being bandied about.

J.J. basically said that it was the name of the street. However this post is good for discussion anyway, and thats funny because you will get trouted for it by someone.

I mean, i know 'out of plot' reason behind why the movie was made, the whole production office thing... But what's the 'in-plot' reason for it? They wanted the name to have a "Manhattan Project" feel to it, as if it were a real government issue. But even the origin of the name "The Manhattan Project" is relevant to the name. So what's the relevancy of the 'in-plot' origin to the name "Cloverfield?"

Not really. Cloverfield is the name of the street the production offices. it was only supposed to be the codename for the movie (like Blue harvest was for star wars) but since the codename got leaked and spread too far before the affixed a final name to the movie (which i think was something like Greygate, whatever bridge rob and beth are under). So they went ahead with Cloverfield as the final name.

I always liked the theory that because of the monster's foot/hands prints left a clover shape [three fingers knuckled up] in the ground... So anywhere the monster went, it looked like a field of clovers.

All right no one has yet trouted. Lets begin discussion. In-plot it could be like mr neil said, that it spreads like clover. I can buy that one. I really dont have another reason for the in-plot reason maybe thats just the name of the monster.

What about the theory about it leaving impressions in the ground in the shape of clovers? Any weight behind that one?

That could be just as good. I mean J.J. always has his little things that only he knows what they represent like the name of the film. That has just as much weight as any other theory here unless you believe it to be Godzilla, then you can kiss my ass.
