[SPEC] Location of story in Halo timeline + other misc.

I'm fairly confident that no one has pointed this out before, but if someone has, I'll shut up. Smile

One of the conversations that the Operator remembers is between Capt. Greene and Lt. Sorenson. They appear to be members in ONI based of the topic of conversation and the other snippets about a ship disguised as a pleasurecraft.

IIRC, in the Halo books there is an Admiral Sorenson in ONI.

If you combine that info with the text "Reach burning in the darkness like a lantern of hope, dockyard after dockyard buzzing with worker /// drones" from the Operators monologue then it appears that this story takes place quite sometime before the Covenant attack Reach.

If that is true, we can virtually eliminate the possibility that the Operator AI is Cortana (her name is mentioned as Mellisa at one point anyway,) and the "Sleeping Princess" therefore cannot be Kelly or any of the other Spartans for that matter.

Obviously none of this answeres how the Operator, SPDR and everything else ended up in 2004 on someones home computer, but I thought it was important none the less.

Good point.

Have people worked out reasons for time travel to 2004? Something to do with the crystal they found on reach?

Not necessarily. Just because this particular memory is from before Reach was glassed, that doesn't mean that The Operator's crash occurred before Reach.

I think you're right that The Operator is not Cortana, but that doesn't rule out a Spartan or Kelly as the "sleeping princess".

In my opinion, the fact that the Widow could be expected to possibly see The Flea and The Princess tends to imply that both of those characters are digital in nature (a program, process, AI, subroutine, etc ).

However, those being humans with (relatively) minimal cybernetic implants, it seems highly unlikely for them to be trapped inside a computer in 2004.

This is Halo, not Tron 3.0.

I should have rephrased that, sorry; In my last sentence I contradicted that -- The "Princess" and "Flee" are most likely digital, not a Spartan or Kelly.
