You mean from this part?

Staff Sgt Pryce: "The building, it's at columbus circle?"
Rob: "Yea"
SSP: "If you wanna go out in this, I ain't gonna stop ya. But you gotta know somethin, the government is considering the Hammerdown protocol. Which means they're willing to let this whole area go."
Rob: "What, you mean midtown?"
SSP: "No, I mean Manhatten. Come on. We're taking one last shot at this thing, if that doesn't work they'll level the whole goddamn city. Your watch is still workin?"
Rob: "Yea"
SSP: "Alright, they're leaving from 40th and Park. Last chopper wheels up at exactly 0600. If you can make it there then they'll get you out."
Rob: "Ok, thank you."
SSP: "58th street is right there. Go, go, move, move, move, go, go, go."

yes. exactly that part. If you look closely you can vaguely see the time on Rob's watch.

The second time I went to see the movie I paid attention to any timepieces I could so I could come back and make a time-line. the failure to bring paper with me to write most of them down and commit them to memory stopped me from originally posting this Smile

bump

Some things at the beginning have confused me a bit.

The earthquake:
What causes the tremor and the power outage? Does the monster capsize the tanker at this moment? How would that create an earthquake and affect power? I'm thinking the monster inadvertently smashes into the tanker as it surfaces effectively knocking it over. How this creates and earthquake and power outage is questionable. Any theories?

Statue decapitation:
The Statue of Liberty is illuminated at night and is probably the first thing the monster sees as it emerges from the depths of the harbor. Maybe it mistakes it for a tasty late night snack. As it attacks the Statue it realizes that it's not a living creature and out of anger rips its head off.

Explosion:
This has to be the tanker. It looks like a highly combustible explosion hence the fireball and high flying debris that hurls across the city. Did the monster cause it to explode by attacking it again or does the tanker explode on its own because of the initial capsizing? We know the tanker has exploded because of the footage seen from the Brooklyn Bridge but is that the same explosion we see from the rooftop? Theories?

Statue head:
Moments after the explosion everyone is on the street and the monster has apparently already reached the shore. The statue head becomes airborne after being either thrown or spit out...who knows? Did the monster carry the head to the shore? Remember, the explosion is first then the statue head comes flying....doesn't seem apparent that the statue's head was ripped off and thrown at the same moment.

Love to hear other's thoughts and theories on this timeline.

Your timeline is a bit out of sync.

1. Statue decapitation.
2. Tanker capsizes.
3. Explosion seen from rooftop.
4. Statue head lands in front of Rob's apartment.

It is apparent that the monster is already on land by the time the explosion happens.

The monster has leapt ashore after the tanker capsizes (which causes the tremor). It has already decapitated the Statue of Liberty, most likely carrying the head with it (how is unknown until we get a shot of the Hasbro figure). The tanker (or something inland) explodes (gas station?, natural gas station?). By this point, the monster is inland and heading into City Hall Park. Rob's group reaches the street and the monster chucks the Statue of Liberty's head from City Hall Park. They feel the tremors of its footsteps and Hud catches the first glimpse of it as it swipes past the Woolworth Building.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. You don't think the news chopper would have noticed and asked "Hey, what happened to the statue's head?"

Why would the monster walk around chewing copper or hold a head for that long? I think The decapitation happened right after the explosion.

You say the monster leapt ashore causing the earthquake. The VERY FIRST indication of the attack is the earthquake and power outage. That doesn't fit.

I stick with my timeline:

1. Earthquake is monster's impact with tanker causing its capsizing. (possibly...not definite)

2. Statue decap.

3. Monster comes ashore with head.

3. Explosion of tanker seen from roof.

4. Monster throws statue head.

Question: exactly what causes the initial earthquake and power outage?

The reason I think it goes in that order is because of the tanker being closer to shore. To me it makes more sense than the monster capsizing the tanker closer to Manhattan, swimming back to Liberty Island and decapitating the Statue and then heading back towards Manhattan. Plus, it's physically impossible for the monster to do that in the amount of time given (from the time of the explosion to the evacuation of Rob's building it probably takes 2.5 minutes or so). I also get the feeling that the explosion was not the tanker, but something on shore.

Why not? It seems that the direction the head is thrown from is City Hall Park.

The head became airborne AFTER the earthquake and explosion. It had already come ashore by then. I doubt it could have thrown the head from the statue's location and make it ashore in such a short time period. It just doesn't fit.

That explosion was highly combustible. It had a huge fireball which indicates extremely volatile material such as.....say....something like...oil? We see the tanker in flames later on from the Brooklyn Bridge. What else would cause such a massive fireball and debris hurling for miles?
