First off remember Blair Witch 2? No? Exactly. A sequel to a movie that is supposed to be real found footage ruins the idea of it being real or found footage. Especially if it is not found footage itself (everyone on the board seemst o be clamoring for a normally shot sequel).

I think when J.J. said he wanted to make America's Godzilla, he was making something that was iconic, i don't think he meant "I want to make a monster movie that will come out every year and will become a huge franchise to make me rich". He said he wanted to make something "insane". Something that would stick with he viewer.

Making sequels to Cloverfield will turn into just another schlocky action movie that comes out every summer. It will ruin the intrigue, mystery and pure 'what the hell was that' factor.

Plus, on the Howard Stern show yesterday morning, J.J. didn't sound too happy about a sequel.

I don't want sequels if it means the Cloverfield monster comes back to save earth from numerous other monsters (especially if they are in rubber suits)...

but as much as a sequel might ruin the originality and beauty (sorry...gay choice of a word...but as long as you get my drift) of the first film...I can't help wanting to see the monster attack again...
