Well thanks for the credit ECW. I was scared about making this a topic into a new thread because the "sequel threads" are getting numerous and ridiculous.
I agree with OLIMANGO. My friend McLovin and i have thought about the same thing at times of this movie being a longer trailer for a movie thats gonna be huge but i really can't see the reality in that situation. Obviously JJ has made people rethink about how movies are done and marketed and if Cloverfield is a set up to something even bigger than he better get Tagruato and the other subjects from this ARE into the movie. I could appreciate a movie shown from someone elses POV but only if its from Tido or Ganu himself or maybe a head member of the military thats getting reports about where the monster is from.
It would be kick ass if he did decide to do two movies at the same time and i don't think that they would've needed paramounts greenlight because of two reasons.....
1: 30 million to make (not much in todays movie world where romances are costing at least 50 to 70 million)
2: The hype for this movie and the reaction of people like ourselves would have made a sequel a greenlight from the very beginning.
I lied there are actually 3 reasons...
3: Lets say that they were making two movies at once (with the writers strike going on it would make perfect sense btw) and the first one bombed. What money would've been lost on a sequel? Not much at all. From unknown actors to using handheld cameras, scratching a sequel that already has footage wouldn't be as costly as most might think. Remember, out of the 30 million that this movie cost, 20-22 million of that went into SFX so therefore making a sequel at the same time wouldn't have been such a risk.
Think of all the movies that get shelved even after the studio puts millions into it. The studio taking a risk on filming a sequel before the first movie comes out is very feasible especially when it would be so cheap to do and with no one knowing when the writers strike will end.
Finally i still think about how much money they made off of selling slusho shirts, hats etc and where that money went to.
Sorry for making a "Sequel Thread" (My whole essay there).
People just want to speculate about different things since it looks like we're getting a blank-out from the ARG.

Well, it's no surprise that the movie made tons of money. It made money before the movie even came out.
A sequel at the same time would be interesting, but I just don't see it. In the interviews the director just seemed like there was no sequel right now. Just in the way he talked, it seemed that it wasn't filmed yet.
Of course, he could be trying to throw us off by acting that he's not trying to throw us off.
God dammit.

No no no my friend... don't get what i said wrong. I'm actually happy that you made yours because yours had substance and from a fan standpoint it needed its own thread. You weren't speculating about a sequel, you were giving your own idea and storyline and i think thats really cool.
What i'm talking about is look thru the forum and you will see at least 9 "theres gonna be a sequel" threads and nobody is trouting them. Know what i mean? Its like if there was a thread about Jamie and then a thread about jamies pants and then another thread about her hair so on and so forth.

i honestly find it very weird they were only given around 30 million to film this...just doesnt add up, its not like JJ or Reeves are new to the game, toss them a bone to build their first feature film type of deal. there has to be a secret behind the secret.

I thought the same thing at first but its probably because they have both worked on TV and Paramount didnt know how that would translate to the big screen. J.J. has been good on the big screen but they probably weren't sure about Reeves.

I agree StayPuffed but that really is a paltry budget even by those standards.

True, true. Also they kept the budget low to hide it from the media, because they are probably gonna find out about a 150 million dollar project. Keeping it low they probably thought Paramount was just making a small film, some type of romantic comedy.
Also they saw how people didnt like Blair Witch and didnt want it to bomb when they spent so much money on it.

Paramount wanted JJ so bad to direct Star Trek , that as part of the deal they agreed that he could do a series of low budget films also. I always assumed this would be a bunch of different films. But what if theyre all Cloverfield related. How awesome would that be

Hello all,
First post, great forum!
Been a lurker for awhile and you know the rest. Anyways, I grew up watching Ultraman, Godzilla and Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot.
I'm so happy JJ gave us a proper giant monster movie. GINO quite frankly sucked(though I know it has it's fans). Cloverfield more than made up for Tristar's travesty.
Anyways, about a sequel.
I think the filmmakers could approach the sequel with either of these 2 scenarios or possibly combine then together. Your thoughts?
Scenario 1: More tapes are found and we see the evens unfold from a different perspective. One thing I found a bit odd were the fact that some major set pieces were "implied" off screen and not shown for the most part. Was someone else filming these with a better view of what went down? Director Reeves has hinted this is a route they may go with.
A few examples:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1.) The tanker attack. 2.) The SOL attack/decapitation 3.) The bridge attack 4.) The parasites vs the military and civilians 5.) The military attacking the creature in the street 6.) Beth's apartment being knocked over 7.) The bombing of the creature at the end
I'd love to see these scenes again from a different perspective with more footage!!
Scenario 2: The movie picks up right after the events of the first film. Various news casts and news crews from helicopters and roving ground units cover the further rampaging of the creature as it sets its sights on.....Japan?!
Scenario 3: Use a combination of both scenarios with Rob and Beth having survived the attack and narrating how "things went down" where we would see the key scenes listed above(new footage) as they are watching events unfold live with the newcasts.

I like those examples. I would like to have the sequel shot with the Army's POV. That would be interesting.
I would also like to see more of Marlena, but I don't think think that would happen.

I personally will be rather upset if a sequel is made to explain everything, and we conclude that we wouldn't have been able to figure any of it out, given the clues we already have. Do you see what I'm implying?

Wouldnt it be completely insane if like next month like the Sunday before the next Friday when the movies come out if you looked on the cinema webpage and saw "Cloverfield 2" and ads started playing on like Monday and stuff.
I think I would drop my jaw in amazement if that happened, and how they had kept it so top secret.

I think it would be interesting for the next or another sequel to have footage from a helmet or gun cam or something from a soldier..but idk
Also there will probably be something during the super bowl if a sequel is coming out this year
