Well, Shadow didn't work.

Switzerland is GMT+1, if I'm looking at this right. I'm on CST (GMT-6) so that would put Smoke 7 hours ahead of me, right?

Should be. When my ex was in Europe, he was 10 hours ahead of Alaska, and Alaska is three hours behind CST. Sunday's coming up, maybe we can try Salmon then. Unless the color password has something to do with the day of the month; she said it was the 31st.

It seems to me that there must be some way for the guys in the know to get the password when it changes. Maybe a blog is too much to hope for?

Yo, Mort.

Right on. Very cool. Your take on that makes a lot of sense. Another thing that I've read about is people using a matrix or a list and changing the password based on a predetermined algorithm, like every hour or every day. Sort of like a book code, but that assumes that the other party has access to the key - whatever that may be. Sounds like you've given it multiple attempts with Smoke and she's still around, maybe I'll look for her online and give it a shot.

Oh, by the way, good news and "Jade's a goof-ball news"; which do you want first? Wink Good news is I unexpectedly found myself in St. Pete today with a bit of spare time so I checked out the two other sites. I'm a jackass because I had nothing, and I mean nothing, with which to capture images; moving or otherwise. Probably no great loss because I couldn't find anything that looked like it might be related to these rituals. We've had a lot of rain lately, so it seems that whatever Sandra saw is gone. No way to know if there ever was anything like it on the ground where Philly was, but if it was there it's not there anymore.

More soon,

Jade

Every HOUR?! Raspberry Dammit, do I have to go buy the 120 box after all?? I have this nagging idea it could be based on the arrangement of the crayons in the box. May just be wishful thinking, but it would be a cool, offline way to do it IMO. He mentioned a table or something in his previous email, so they really seem to be nudging us pretty strongly (for them) here.

EDIT: We may need to take another look at the color numbers and the hex codes. I've emailed Jade, we'll see what he thinks.

May have solved the oil crisis

You forget how handy it is to have a little place like this to note the bizarre stuff that you feel you should note, but that you know no one really cares to hear.

My favourite little cafe has been out of their usual paper cups the past several days. They have replaced them with cups made of some variant of Styrofoam that has, until now, never been seen outside the confines of Area 51 (or possibly Greenbriar). Old man Dart would be rolling over in his Brazilian grave. (BTW, we all STILL know that the brother did it.)

The horrid thing is that when reheated in the microwave (as I do) these alien coffee cups start to off-gas what for the life of me smells exactly like high-octane gasoline. I started looking around frantically for open flames, 'cause I just knew the whole place was gonna blow.

Needless to say, that put me right off the java, but I have a feeling that any future road trips will be a lot more economical.

Greenbriar is the Cold War bunker built for Congress in the event of an exchange of nuclear devices.

Old Man Dart is a moth: Agrotis vetusta.

I somehow doubt it was spaceage Styrofoam. Plastics are all toxic to one degree or another. Shouldn't heat them up. Dipping plastic cups in nail polish remover, however, can provide a solid half hour of entertainment.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dart_Container

Three generations of Dart men built the Dart Container Corp. Two brothers run it now. There are some references to business dealings with Brazil (http://www.caymannetnews.com/Archive/Archive%20Articles/November%202001/Issue%20123/Who%20is%20.html, but I haven't found mention of anybody dying or being buried there.

Red herring, anyone? Red Herring Could be wrong, of course... I've only skimmed the above articles.

Oil pastels

Sylvia and Petunia mentioned (on Skype) the fact that Jade talked about his daughter preferring oil pastels before he went on to talk about the crayola crayons and that they were going to look at the colours available. Now, I don't know what colours they come in, but I do know that Crayola oil pastels are hexagonal...so was it a hint to look at the Hex code again?? Or do the crayons give off fumes which have slowly been affecting my mind Confused Smile

lotsa stuff
today the part of mortality will be played by petunia... :P

Still haven't read through the Dart stuff, but I do remember it mentioning one of the Dart brothers buying up large chunks of the national debt of Brazil at a discount, so that the Dart Corp. became Brazil's largest creditor. Then there was trouble with the IRS about something, I think that's what Jade is referring to when he says the brother did it. The Area 51 reference may be about the secret process Dart uses to mold polystyrene beads into cups - they've kept it such a secret that they only allow a few employees access to the machines that do it, and have avoided getting a patent because that would require disclosing the process.

Sylvia's research has been more in the oil products -> Tupperware realm and, as badaim said, got her thinking about oil pastels again. Crayola oil pastels come in boxes of 16 and 28, but they also make a Portfolio Series aimed at older kids & adults, and those come in boxes of 12 and 24. Jade's video series that he mentioned in his email to me is called P O R T F O L I O... coincidence?

Also, did anybody happen to see this? http://overwatchjournal.blogspot.com/2008/01/happy-new-year.html

I've been slogging away at the wiki, focusing on the Smoke section for obvious reasons... but since we're not sure what direction that's going in yet, it's a bit messy. I've put Sylvia's emails with Petra up, and made transcripts of Philly's conversations with Smoke for easy reference. There's also a starter list of characters and a list of Skype contacts. Keep in mind that you can go in and edit as well, though I think you have to join first.

Barring emails from Petra or Jade anytime soon, I plan to head to the art supply to check out the colors in those boxes.

email from Jade

Well, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

Quote:

Haha, not a dork at all. I've got a pack of Prang crayons (I prefer them to Crayolas) in my office that I haven't been able to use for the same reason. It is right next to the other box I bought (because they are such good crayons I couldn't stand to NOT use them). Two dork points there. Add to that the fact I even care enough about crayons to prefer one brand over the other and I have scored the Dork Trifecta! Gaze upon my Dorkitude in utter and complere awe! (I know I do. O.o)

Anyway, I thought about the crayon box idea too, but I wondered if they always get sorted in the same order on the box. If not, there would be no way for a person to be sure that they would be able to impart the correct order of the colors (assuming that this is the scheme) to an unknown second party. I get the feeling that the purpose of the scheme is for A) the initiated to continue to be able to know the method and B) the uninitiated gain access if they have the wherewithal to figure out the scheme. I've run into similar concepts both in my previous work with Djinn and with some of the more "mystical" people that I sometimes find myself in contact with. I'd say that it is not at all impossible that the wiki list is the key. If it were, I wonder which list would be the correct one?

So I don't have to redirect any more of my coffee budget towards crayons after all. Laughing

He seems to be pointing us pretty strongly back to the Wikipedia page. The 48 column is out because midnight blue is called Prussian blue there. The 64 column is next, and Jade mentioned in email his fondness for "the old-school 64." More importantly, as Sylvia figured out in chat the other day, you can start at midnight blue on Dec. 31st, count down the list (including raw umber, which is what threw me off) and land on salmon on Jan. 6.

That pattern only seems to work for the 64 and 72 columns. So, counting forwards from salmon on Jan. 6 to today, Jan. 27, in the 64 column would give us blue gray. In the 72 column you get yellow orange.

Cool.

He emailed me to say that I should ask you for more reasons why he's a jackass. Is it just the "dorkitude" that he's referring to?

I don't think so... He sent me email similar to what he sent you the other day. I didn't post it because I didn't see the point, but maybe we're missing something.

Hey there, Petunia ii,

Was just sending a note to Mort and since I'm sure how close you guys stay in contact I wanted to follow-up with you - since I think you asked about it first.

[Pretty much verbatim from what I sent Mort; sorry, I'd prefer sending some personal banter, but I have to step out here in a minute and I'm tight for time.]

Something I keep forgetting to mention: Smoke's location is listed as Switzerland, but her time zone is listed as EST (GMT-5).

EDIT: Okay, much as I'd like to put it off, maybe it's time to start putting our Jade emails up on the wiki. :/

ok, so Jade visited the places Sandra saw and the one Brighton Early was at. He's a jackass, because he didn't take any sort of camera. But he says there was nothing at either site. Yet, the first site had clear evidence, though it was over 56 years ago. Now I know I've lost it. I can't take any more confusion. I'm going insane.

Rock On for finally getting her to say something besides "?".
Bang Head for the new puzzle she just handed us.
B.S. for her supposedly being so big on "civility."
Coffee for me...

If we've finally hit on the right formula, tomorrow's code should be blue-green. I'm putting the next several day's worth of codes up (say it with me now) on the wiki. See the handy-dandy link in my shiny new sig.
