Don't even involve me in this. I was aware of all of this, but I am not partaking in the destruction or the outcome.

Well, maybe the outcome.

Geographically and chronologically, the explosion occurred must have occurred out in the harbor beyond the Statue of Liberty and somewhere around the Verazano bridge.

This event occurred after the tremors so it was not a crash.

It also occurred after the news report of the tanker capsizing.

It could have been another tanker that exploded as the image that Hud took showed a burning ship to the right of the Statue of Liberty.\

So, tremors, followed by a capsized tanker, followed by the explosion which preceded the decapitation of Lady Liberty.

Does anyone know if SBN is supposed to be flammable? I stumbled across an article:

http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history.do?action=Article&id=405

and was wondering if there was SBN in the tanker, somehow it ignited, causing a massive explosion. I remember seeing video of the Texas incident, and that explosion was easily the size of the New York "Cloverfield" explosion.

Well if this monster has been around for 1,000s of years, I would imagine it could have been underground. The monster could have gone somewhat underground and striked the bridge. Then again its just a movie and they could have just not seen the monster and it hit a bridge.

What I thought of the explosion was first it was in part of the city. I admit I dont know jack about New York Geography. But buildings appeared to be close enough behind it that it wasn't the harbor unless there are a couple of docks only at the location. Also it seemed to go from bottom up in a straight line before hte fragments come off. So I don't think it was a tanker (and certainly not the one we see later on fire, there'd be nothing left).
Secondly the fragments looked to me like stones rather then metal shrapnel. So I keep thinking a building with alot of gargoyles, or something else artistic, stone and kinda haning away to the outside of the building, on it with most being at or near the top. Not to mention they seem to come off uniformly (which is also why its not a tanker).

if those 2 are true about the geographic location of the explosion, that could possibly be the explosion at they seen at the party at the beginning of the movie...

but dont quote me...its just a random idea that i came up with since after reading SOME but not all of the posts in this thread and staring at the pics on 1-18-08.com

so idunno

Hm.
So...

I was under the impression that the explosion was sort of rolling over the top of a large building and nowhere near the water. I don't believe it was the military either. When all the characters come running out the party and then duck and cover inside of that store and ATT walks by you don't hear the military shooting at it the entire time it's walking down the street and long after it's gone you still don't hear any shots being fired.

Also, it IS questionable that only selective pieces of debris are flying through the air like comets. Just as questionable as the debris flying out of the water at high velocity after the C Station goes down.

I currently can't fathom an explaination for this since we've ruled out tentacles and blowholes. And based on the actual shape of the monster, ATT doesn't seem capable to hurtle several objects through the air simultaneously.
