[Manchurian] The Manchurian Candidate

There's a remake of "The Manchurian Candidate" coming out soon, starring Denzel Washington. Alert reader Trallyus tipped us off via email to a companion game in which you use your cell phone to answer riddles and gain entries to a sweepstakes where you could win a hometown screening of the movie and/or a new Kyocera cellphone. It's billed as a "voice recognition game" so may not be quite an ARG, however...

Equally alert reader Individua spotted the name in the movie trailer of the evil corporation behind the brainwashing in the movie, "Manchurian Global." Turns out via Yahoo! or Google search, they have a website (conveniently located at the top of the hit list, along with sponsored ads for that search query term). The site, as Individua points out, is full of useless technobabble fluff, but it does have an interesting link to a private extranet. Anyone feel like cracking a login? Very Happy

The Manchurian Game movie site has some quite nice flash on it, as well.

Side note on the Manchurian Global site: on the home page, the "contact" link at the bottom is attached to an email address, but on other pages it links to the nonexistent "contact.php" file. Let's see how quickly they fix that.

If you go into projectc.net you will see that they have 2 links on their site. Just 2 links. I don't buy that for a web design company. One of the links is to a mike tyson jukebox thingy. I listened to some of the audio tracks, but I didn't hear anything that caught my attention.

On the other hand, the second link on the PC.net page is to a hosting company. Or at least it says "super dope hosting provided by node 41".

Node 41 took me to a page with 3 images on it. Different colored images, but all of them round and with "41" on white. What does it mean? I really don't know if it should even mean something, but I googled Node 41 and I got a link for the wireless node database project.

It's a wireless spot somewhere in WA. Is there any connection?

Also.. on the Manchurian Global page, there's a link to some Current Investments. There are projects listed there. Projects with names like "Pan-Asian Power Grid" and "Valhalla Resort Project", which sound very much like conspiracy theorist's material to me.

Finally, one thing that really hit close to home (pun very much intended): I live in Colombia, South America, in a city named Medellín. The Manchurial Global site has an Interests page with some listings. And yes.. there's a listing for a Trauma Clinic in Medellín, the city I live in. Coincidence? I hope not.

Dr. Atticus Noyle

If you click on the word "insight" on the home page, you get to a list of their scientists, one of whom has a link. Clicking on "Dr. Atticus Noyle" brings up you a movie of the good doctor talking about the company's biotech work, and their recent discoveries that people can be genetically re-programmed as easily as tomatoes, and how "...with a flick of the wrist we can adjust character... change personality". I think we all know where this is going.... Smile I have an e-mail into noyleSPLATmanchurianglobal.com, but haven't heard back.

Yes, Atticus Noyle is a character in the movie, and, based on some checking on IMDB, it looks like the actor appearing in the movie is indeed the guy in the video.

Also, a click on the movie itself opens up a page on the main Manchurian Candidate site, which should remove any ambiguity about the nature of the site.

No luck on guessing the password for the extranet, btw.

Just another newbie posting. Confused

I have a hunch the image of the multicolored "41"s is stegged, but I'm lost on a password.

I'm not sure about the wireless node db, though out of curiosity I'm trying to figure out what building he set it up from. All I can tell so far is that he's right next door to the Kirkland Arts Center. Not sure if that's significant or not.

Another interesting tidbit: If you go back through Manchurian Global's news database, you come across the credentials of the latest board member. Two of the ventures he's credited with founding, Pegasus Solutions (formerly Pegasus Systems) and Fortune Natural Resources (formerly Fortune Petroleum) are real corporations.

There's something bizarre about that video. There's a subliminal overlay of Noyle. I think it's Noyle himself, but in some of them, it looks like another person.

And if you play around with the slider, right when he's talking about the noble tomato, there's a whisper: "push it again". At the point in the slider is one of the overlays I'm talking about.

<edit>
Checked the ProjectC website and that Mike Tyson jukebox. The first and last audioclips where interesting. The "My Style is Impetuous" clip makes a comment about "Lennox is the Conqueror? I'm Alexander, he's no Alexander". The Manchurian Global website, under the Our Company header, has a comment from Walter Stevenson, CEO, that "uniting the world was a dream of Alexander the Great".

The "Praise Be To Allah" clip makes no mention of the phrase in English, but uses the Arabic phrase "Alhamdu lillah" (I believe). While it's not mentioned here in English, it's at the end of the "My Style is Impetuous" clip.

BTW, neither are the login and password.

Projectc.net was registered in 1998
Node41.com was registered in 1999

A quick poke around with dig reveals that they're both hosted on the same machine. I'm not sure how much we can read into this, to be honest.

That said, the images on the Node41 site do look puzzlish; they remind me slightly of those colourblindness tests you get... (FWIW, stegdetect comes back negative on node41.jpg)

Internet Wayback Machine has an entry for Node41.com going back 2001, as well as ProjectC.net. Node41 looks to be a legit web site, intranet and extranet design and IT company, from it's first entry. PC.net comes up with a few pages, but it looks like it's 100% flash or java, and thus is not saved in the Archive.

[NEW?] Michael Robinett

If this is trout, go ahead and call me on it, but I searched for "manchurian AND candidate" and all I got was this thread and a passing mention in another thread.

Anyway, if you go to the movie website now, there is an option to "enter the experience" or something like that. If you click it, you get sent into a spooky flash part of the site that where you click around and find stills from the movie. All the clickable parts of the flash take you further and further into their little slideshow.......except one.

Go to this address: http://www.manchuriancandidate.com/everythingisundercontrol.html

which is part of this flash experience. Now click on Denzel's shoulder. There is a little flash animation, and the next part you are supposed to click on is this circle on the left side of the screen with some arabic text and an arrow pointing into the circle. Actually, most of the places where you are supposed to click are sort of hidden. This one is probably the most obvious.

It's also probably a distraction from the document on the right hand side. If you mouse over some of the scratched out text, you'll find a part that is clickable. Clicking there will send you to a different site. I've been through the flash deal twice, and I'm pretty sure this is the only off-site link.

The page you go to is:
http://www.michael-robinett.com/declass/c078.htm

which has a pic of a government document with a bunch of blacked out stuff. If you scroll down to the table of contents link at the bottom, you'll realize that this is page 78 of unclassified Mk-Ultra Project documents, which (FYI) is a supposed mind control project the CIA was involved in. Thus the tie in with the movie. The page you first get to is called:

Mk-Ultra Hypnosis - 100 Subjects, 6 experiments.

Plus, at the bottom of the contents page, it says:

"Larger file size scans with clearer image resolution in .jpg format can be made available upon request."

So this looks like a guy who is a legit conspiracy guy who really put up this website and the movie makers happened to link to it.

The really wierd thing is trying to get to this stuff from www.michael-robinett.com. If you go to the front page, there is a ton of stuff about the pictures he's taken, and he's got large galleries of pics there. On the front page, you have to scroll down to the bottom where it says "Privacy" and click there. That's where you find a whole collection of documents from the Dred Scott decision to patents for remote control cars (not toys, real cars).

I don't know. The site is so wierd, it seems like it's part of the Manchurian Candidate stuff. However, the scope on the information on the site also makes me think that the site is "out of the game." I mean, there is a 30 second or so movie in there, which is a slide show of Clinton getting into a limo. There is also a short movie with some freaky noises on the Mk-Ultra contents page. Plus, why would Mike Robinett hide all that stuff under an innocent looking "Privacy" link?

I just sent him an email, so we'll see. Even if there is no Manchurian game besides the phone one advertised on the site, the www.michael-robinett.com privacy stuff is pretty interesting.

*** ALSO ***

The number 75435 appears in the flash just as it starts up. It's not 41^3, that is 68921. It probably fits in the equation somewhere. I tried a bunch of permutations of Atticus Noyle and Michael Robinett on the Manchurian Global extranet (with 75435 as the password) to no avail.

And there is stuff on Michael's site about remote control of stoplights, and a stoplight figures prominently on projectc.net

---------------------------------------------------

Just got a blank auto-response back from MichaelRobinettSPLATmichael-robinett.com. Blank as in all I see is a white space and there is nothing at all to highlight or select, but the white space is a pretty good sized one. I don't know if this is a typical blank auto-repsonse or what.

Ok, so if you click the underlined michael-robinett on the main page, it spits you to a page called Index3. So what are Index1 and Index2?

Index1 looks like an early version of the site. Index2 has a wierd sound playing in the background. It looks like it was kind of neglected, until you look at the source code.

The credits in that weird video about MK Ultra directed me to look up the Institute of Surface Structures aka ISIS (strangely, not a direct acronym). I did a Google search and came up with a link back to Michael Robinett's domain.
http://www.michael-robinett.com/isis/_index.htm

On it is another page Google link to, a rundown of the numbers generated by Pythagoras' Theorum, and the formulas and equations based of the Giza Pyramids and Le Corbusier. The title of this page is Research & Development: http://www.michael-robinett.com/isis/index-m2.htm

If you're wondering, the 75435 number isn't included in these sets.

The other links on the first ISIS page are to the formulas themselves. Following that, there's a link to something called the Technical Services Division, which looks like a resume. Then a newslinke section, which contains various news outlets but also has a marquee of the links in the middle of the page. The final one is About ISIS, which sends you to a page of a colored eclipse corona. When clicking on the eclipse or the "built with" link, it sends a red ISIS moving across the screen. There's 12 pages of this before it loops back to isis-01.htm. Also, the first two pages have audio links in them. The first is a midi file that plays nothing, and another is a wav file that plays a chord off a guitar, I believe.

The third link Google brought up was a series of life sketches hosted on Fortunecity. http://members.fortunecity.com/michael_robinett/sketches.htm

BTW, on that privacy statement page, there's this link on the 2004 Election campaign. http://www.michael-robinett.com/2004%20Campaign/index.htm
Choice selections include

DELETED stated, "I was sent to deal with the most negative aspects of the human condition. It was planned destructiveness. First, you'd check to see if you could destroy a man's marriage. Bump his car in traffic. A lot of it is ridiculous, but it may have a cumulative effect." Agency case officers might also use this same sort of stress-producing campaign against a particularly effective enemy intelligence officer whom they knew they could never recruit but whom they hoped to neutralize.

That ISIS stuff is great. Hello, Egyptology. I found this on the goddess, Isis:

Quote:
[...]From what has been said above it is manifestly impossible to limit the attributes of Isis, for we have seen that she possesses the powers of a water goddess, an earth goddess, a corn goddess, a star goddess, a queen of the Underworld, and a woman, and that she united in herself one or more of the attributes of all the goddesses of Egypt known to us.

I really know nothing about Egypt. I'm sure someone else can give a better snapshot of Isis.

Also, I see what you are saying about clicking the cornea to get the red ISIS to move across the screen, but there is also a spot of hidden text below the moving numbers that read:

Quote:
...................................................next

This does the same thing. The difference is that if you click the hidden text through the sequence, the file names go from index-01 to index-12 increasing one in the number each time (index-01 and index-12 are the same except for a sound link). However, when you click through with the cornea, the sequence skips index-11. If you view the source, you can see that the links on page index-10 point to two different pages. My initial thought is that this is a simple mistake, but we'll see.

-------------------------------------------------

Also, on the fortune city page, if you click the flashing nude sketch, you go to a page with a building sketch. The following is written underneath it, exceptionally small:

Quote:
sketch after Michelangelo

Sketches: life drawings

web space provided by

www.fortunecity.com

E-mail

Copyright 1998 Michael Robinett

The "sketch after Michelangelo" part is centered beneath the sketch. The email goes to michaelrobinettSPLATfortunecity.com, but bounces back undeliverable. The "Sketches: life drawings" bounces back to the sketches of the nudes. If these fortune city pages are part of the mystery, I don't see how they tie in.

Another thing, if this game (if it even is a game) is tied to the election, then it's a pretty poor promo for the movie. The game has just started, and the movie is already out. I'm starting to feel like I'm chasing my (or Mike Robinett's) tail.

Well, Alexander the Great invaded Egypt at one point, staying there several months. He even setup a temple in the Bahariya Oasis to gof Horus and, get this, the goddess Isis. He also toured the Giza pyramids while there, which get a mention on the ISIS website.

The interesting thing about this is that the "next" text doesn't appear on any of the pages, especially when I try to highlight the page. The source says it's just white fonted, but it should appear. Crazy.

That's what I wonder. I did a Google search on the name Michael Robinett and got a lot of results from 2002-2003, in architectural design and psychotronic victims forums. I think that this Michael Robinett is a legit person, a conspiracy theorist, that the makers of the film based alot of their work on. On a glance of the mind control experiment victims' forum, I've found a lot of similar "techonology" and "techniques" used in the film.

BTW, I did a whois on Michael-robinett.com. This is what I found.

The expiration date I found funny, but I think it's expected. If this is a puzzle, then it's a Gordian Knot worthy of Alexander.
