Cloverfield 2
Script outline - possible spoilers

It's crazy, but I outline what I think will happen in the sequel of Cloverfield on my blog. It's fairly detailed, and even has a mock poster, so enjoy...

I like it.
Especially these parts

Quote:
This will have a small effect, but mostly just get the Creature's attention, at which time it starts playing Whack-A-Tank and begins throwing the other tanks around. (The one you rode in on will be thrown into the big tv screen at Times Square making a very satisfying explosion -with yet more way-too-obvious product placement advertising).

Quote:
You actually climb up the Creature's body, onto it's head (your girlfriend calls at this time, but you ignore it)

i like some of it...but some of it I don't like

I don't really like the bit with the girlfriend...well its not that I don't like it...but all I can picture is a person like Jamie...and if this guy is supposed to be some renegade who saves the day...I can't imagine him being with a girl like that

I like the idea of military POV...and i think the points where they come across the original main characters are fairly logical...they seem to work pretty good

but as for the guy climbing up on the monster and throwing a detonator in him...i dunno...i dont like it...

number 1 ... its too easy...after all the attacks on MGP...for him to die like that would seem like a bit of an anti climax to me...there has to be more than that...maybe they have to outsmart MGP to be able to force him into a position for it to even be possible for him to climb him...

but its hard to imagine one man being able to climb MGP...especially with all the little monsters on him

number 2...i don't know why...but I have a feeling things like this have been done in a few movies before...

but i reckon the gills being the weak spot for MGP is the best way to go

overall i think it definitely has some merit to it though...

I just worry...if everyone keeps coming up with great ideas...will paramount use them...because technically they are the intellectual property of someone else

i am a big proponent of the sequel being from a different perspective on the same night, but i had never liked the idea that it could be from the military's perspective.

after reading (some of) this i can safely say that i think a military sequel actually might be great.
the more i think about it the more i like it, mainly because i had always tied comparisons between cloverfield and alien (1979) so the military sequel reminds me of aliens now, so i could definitely see that work.

problems: jj would really have to try to make sure it doesn't become a cheesy-blockbuster-tough-guy movie. the reason cloverfield was so great is because it took rob 6-or-so tries to kick down a door--he's a regular guy. same with a dude in the military, no one is super-human. if they can pull off a military sequel whilst adding humanity to the characters (like the first) i am all in for that idea.

sidenote: i like the possibility of seeing the slusho 6 in certain scenes in the background, but not in every other scene. the movie should be relatively self-sufficient-- neither necessarily the "sequel" aside from chronological release time.

o, and the monster can't die Smile

I highly doubt they are rushing for a sequel next year, after a dissapointing second week at the box office.

actually... JJ just said, in a recent EW interview, that the studio is pushing him into starting a sequel but that HE has no rush.

the movie has earned back their costs and a few extra million Wink within two weekends. it should be in the theatres for a few more weekends and it won't make it as much but Paramount undoubtedly saw it as a success and will attempt to capitalize on it.

in my opinion, they're gonna have to do something crazy new/exciting and go more mainstream if they want the same success (not that I care. but Paramount does)

my good friend's Father is the VP of Paramount Marketing and he says that Cloverfield has changed how they approach each of their movies, viral-wise. this movie had a bigger impact on the industry then some realize.

Wow, that was painful to read. It started off nicely, I liked the military perspective and seeing some of the events in the first film from different perspectives but it went down hill quickly. The story got way too cliche way too fast. I mean how the hell is his girlfriend talking to him? How does he single handily destroy the MGP? I thought we were trying to get away from this crap. It salvageable, but please, don't write Sci-Fi Channel original quality films. Unless you're making fun of how Hollywood ruins movies or something along those lines, that's different.

I agree.

there are some real good parts in there... I understand that you were trying to add the female factor into the movie.

this may be even MORE cliche, but what if his wife/girlfriend/a crush (?) was actually in the military. in a seperate unit. it'd create some interesting dynamic.

and your ending, by the way, wouldn't happen. there would be some unanswered ending or a twist.

i see the handy cam trend dying before the second one comes out. my idea is maybe have like 8 different groups in new york and you're seeing them at the same time, (like 8 simultaneous (sp?) films and you get to choose which one you wanna watch through some sort of interactive thing, ie a dvd or the movie streaming online... that or just do a different city without the handy cam. I think if they do teh handy cam it will cheapen it.

I liked this synopsis. I would change a few tiny things (I don't really think the whole girlfriend-callin'-on-da-phone thing is necessary, but, if played up for comedic value, which I think is what you had in mind, it could be a really good idea; and, I don't think there were that many bugs), but if the movie came out exactly like this, I think it could be as good as the first. Honestly. It'd all just depend on the director and specific dialogue and, like, such as.

Confused how would Paramount caplitalize on the "Cloverfield" success by various streaming videos, on the internet?

when they produce a sequel it will be a big legitimate deal.

Well my good friends uncle's brother's friend who is married to the guy who's sister is related to the girl who's brother was arrested by the sister of the cop who is dating her little sister said that the theater floor where they saw Cloverfield was sticky.
