[spec] They wanted something to rival [edit] famous giant ..
Theories on the sequel

Ok, so here is my theory on what will happen on the sequel. As everyone knows, the creators wanted america to have its very own version of a monster. Something to be adored and loved by fans, something like [edit] famous giant japanese monster [edit] .

Well after watching the movie... this was not going to be like [edit] famous giant japanese monster [edit] at all. There is nothing that one can like of this monster, you cant really turn it into plushy!. Well to explain this i came up with this idea.

There are two monsters in this movie. Well actually there is only one moster, but there is evidence of the arrival of a second one.
The one that the movie revolves around is the bad guy that came from the sea.

However the second one is the creature that we see falling from the sky. I am also willing to think that this is not a monster but some sort of robot from outer space. So what will we see in Cloverfield 2? we see this second creature/robot/giant lion fight and defeat the monster of the original movie. And there we have a hero creature thing that we all can love.

The movie ends to perfectly satisfy this scenario. The monster is alive and we get a small glimpse of the savior of humanity.

Those are my 2 cents. FIRST POST EVER.

Since it's your first post, I will be nice, and just say welcome.

And don't EVER say Godzilla again. Ever.

oh yeah!
one more thing!
JJ(obviously) does NOT like satisfying endings
he likes the cliff hangers/open endings!
if you watch anything by him you will know this(i.e. Lost).

Not A Chance

I can say with 99.9% certainty that there aren't going to be any giant robots in this franchise unless it's like 15 years from now and it's Mecha Godzilla and even that's a stretch.

Have you ever seen the original Godzilla movies? There's nothing cuddly about Godzilla. Just because you CAN turn him into a plushy doesn't make him huggable. They can do the same thing with a T-Rex and a Raptor and there's nothing adorable about them either. Godzillas sole purpose is to kill people. He HATES mankind. The only thing he hates more than mankind are OTHER monsters, well, the bad ones, but I assume that's because their a threat to the Earth itself, and Godzilla won't hesitate to protect the Earth.

So from that perspective the monsters are as dissimilar as you think. They're both huge angry things that crush buildings and kill people. People love Godzilla because he kicks ass. Hard. Because ATT (A Terrible Thing) is brand new he hasn't had a chance to kick too much ass yet so we'll just have to give him some time. Right now he's being "uniquely established." We don't even know what his motivations are yet.

As for that thing at the end of the movie. I really can't fathom what it could be. The options are pretty much The Monster or The Satellite, but Aram's own words seem to both confirm and contradict this at the same time. On the one hand I've heard he's said the monster has been lying at the bottom of the ocean since forever, on the other, he claims that thing falling into the ocean is related to the monster's origin in some way.

I figure only time will tell.

Nice theory, once again not everyone will agree, but you are thinking out of the box and I like that Very Happy

But about MGP being unlikeable, the creator doesn't intend for him to be "Bad" as in doing what he is doing with bad intentions, he is "Scared" and a trapped lion. Sort of like if you shot a horse when it was in a crowd of people, it would run wildly in pain and terror not knowing what sort of hell it was raising trampling and kicking people around, because it was to hurt and scared to notice.[/google]

Not trying to be mean, but just go to search and type "godzilla". There've been 100 threads about Godzilla and Cloverfield, and members that have been here awhile are about ready to lynch the next person that brings up the Big Green Guy.

Thought I'd warn you and save you some flaming.

I snuggle my japanese monster plush toy with all my heart and soul every night.

but, yeah....don't really see a robot situation happening in this. I'd fancy the idea of a mama coming to find her dead baby in the middle of cental park though.

Well, let's see

ATT was easily 30-50 stories tall on it's hind legs, the adult version would have to be reaching 100+ stories at twice the size. That's ridiculous, I can barely fathom a monster that big, also if we were struggling that hard with the infant, I doubt we'd even be able to get the adult to notice our puny attempts to ward it off.
