It's not that, it's just that to me the explosions which bury Rob and Beth don't seem to be nuclear in nature.

I can accept that explination easily, it's the people that get on here and scream "NO WAY, just no, we would never nuke a city in America, for ANY reason!!!"

Never? Really? Not even for an outbreak of some horrible virus that will kill us all? Or Zombies? Or a giant frickin monster that has torn the ass out of the big apple and is a couple hours walk from Philly, D.C., or Baltimore? How about some little crawly things that are in the subway and cause you to explode when they bite?

Exactally dude...The logical way to handle it at that point would be one city lost is better than 5 cities...or 10 cities

But the explosion wasnt nuclear...im pretty sure about that.

I forgot to mention Independence Day. The military used a nuke in that one too. Poor Houston.

When you watch the explosions at the end, they do not look like nukes. No bright flash, no instant vaporizing stuff. That I can accept as an argument for no nuke.

I can't accept people posting that we just wouldn't do it, no way in hell. In the movies, we do it all the time. And if you think the military wouldn't ever nuke a U.S. city, no matter what, keep on dreaming, and hope some super-flu virus or an airborne strain of ebola doesn't pop in on your local municipality.

Yeah, but, they probably wouldn't authorize something like that within a day, not even for a giant monster, not in a movie meant to portray a more realistic chain of events (well... as realistic as it can get anyway.) Yes, I realize it's a movie (in fact I thought I stated that myself), and yes they nuke American Cities all the time. I think you left off Independance Day and Alien Vs Predator II on your list. I don't think people are claiming they'd never do it in a movie, they're just saying that in regards to THIS movie where realistic events are supposed to be being portrayed it is unlikely that the government would opt to drop a nuclear bomb on American City within 10 hours of a giant monster attack. Even with The Parasites running around it's never really made clear how many of them there are, it would seem there are only as many as ATT would be carrying around on him, and they're definitely not bulletproof.

Ahh but you contradict yourself with the examples...In those movies its authorized relatively quickly, so in regards to a giant monster i would think it would be fast as hell...but i dont think it was a nuke anyways so it doesnt matter...you got better points than me

Heh. I know, I know, but like I said as realistic as it CAN get with it's subject matter.

Yeah, but my point was those movies weren't intended to relay a realistic sequence of events, instead they took the Action Movie Scenario #119 in which the government can and will nuke all foreign entities into oblivion. There's even a movie where they wanted to nuke a black hole that opened up beneath a city. And The Scientist kept trying to tell that how ludicrous that idea was but, of course...

Realistically I think they would have simply engaged ATT until it retreated to the ocean again. The attacks we witnessed would have been a prelude to the rest of the Armed Forces arriving on scene.

But again, that's all relative to the fact that the movie is intended to portray a realistic scenario overlapping an unrealistic one...

It's called The Black Hole (2006 version). It's terrible but hilarious. My friend and I spent most of the movie either laughing or shaking our heads.

Houston was *already* flattened by the spaceship's primary weapon; it's as if a nuke went off already. You can't compare that level of damage to MGP, who causes destruction through his movement and does not cause total destruction (Beth and several others were probably still alive in her apartment building, even though it was hip checked by MGP).

There is absolutely no way they used a nuclear, not that they wouldn't but that they didn't. If it was a nuclear weapon there would just be a flash, not an explosion, the tunnel collapse and another explosion and for that matter there would have been no possibility of the camera or the SD card surviving. It would have just melted meaning there would have been no way for it to be found.

No. The US Government would not nuke it's most valuable real estate. Not even with a variable yield joint. There is too much collateral. Not to mention that every fuckin' developed country in the world has some stake in that city.

Yeah. I said it.

But okay. Lets compare the instances in Cloverfield to Independence Day where a city-sized spacecraft was nuked over a city that had already been destroyed by a weapon comparable to a nuclear device. Lol. 'Cause you're BOUND to prove some shit on that one. Rolling Eyes

Make ya' snide remarks if you want to, but the thought of nukes going off even in cases of outbreaks of extroverted common cold doesn't quite make sense. I think Romero would have remembered that one in Land of the Dead.

And there can be an outbreak of something in my town. Hell, I'm from D.C. The Department of Health and Human Services, Pentagon, 8th and I Barracks, Andrews AFB, Bolling AFB would have this place quarantined with such fastness.
