actually... JJ just said, in a recent EW interview, that the studio is pushing him into starting a sequel but that HE has no rush.

the movie has earned back their costs and a few extra million Wink within two weekends. it should be in the theatres for a few more weekends and it won't make it as much but Paramount undoubtedly saw it as a success and will attempt to capitalize on it.

in my opinion, they're gonna have to do something crazy new/exciting and go more mainstream if they want the same success (not that I care. but Paramount does)

my good friend's Father is the VP of Paramount Marketing and he says that Cloverfield has changed how they approach each of their movies, viral-wise. this movie had a bigger impact on the industry then some realize.

that's HILARIOUS! Confused

I figured I would get flamed for it. that's fine. I can offer a lot of insight (I was told about an alternate ending, for the movie, that they changed in mid December).

it's your choice to believe me or not... but no need for the lame sarcasm. that wasn't even funny. at least make it good.

I was surprised to find that pretty satisfying. I really enjoyed your ideas. Extremely detailed and the silly side things were cute (ie soldier's girlfriend). Thank you for sharing that with us! Smile

Why does there even need to be a female element? I'm so FUDGING tired of a retarded and unnecessary love interests!!!! If there is to be a female element let it be a fellow soldier who is just a friend or a survivor they pick up alone the way. Oh, idea, how about instead of them escaping via a helicopter, they escape in a standard troop transport truck and all you can see is the bombs dropping behind them as buildings crumble, or maybe on a ferry in the harbor.

I am an ASS, that's what I do. ME and my ASSFLAG.com would like to know what the alternate ending was. Do you have that information or do I need to find my Cap'n Crunch super decoder ring?

I like the cross-overs with the first movie, but it's a bit too much. JJ tried to go away from that and did. There was no explanation for what the monster was or where it came from and not that many unrealistic situations (Besides the giant monster attacking the city) like killing MGP or tons of encounters with the parasites. It seems to go against the original in the way that it's too cliched.

This seemed more to me like an idea for a video game, not for a sequel (Although the helmet cam idea was interesting).

if Hollywood gave us a Big Mama's House #2, then surely JJ will deliver a second Cloverfield.

I'm sorry, but that was God-awful, and I thank Odin you aren't officially involved in any capacity. Seriously. Crawling up the monster to throw a bomb in its mouth? C'mon dude.....

The Cloverfield monster is a deep sea nasty after all. Thank you Geeks of Doom - they explained everything. I recommend you check out their incredibly detailed research into this movie... (It's a fantastic read)

http://geeksofdoom.com/2008/01/22/cloverfield-mythos-explored-monsters-marketing-and-millions/

The other thing I'll say is that there is definitely a large explosion at the end of the movie. To save Rob and Beth this explosion simply can't be the Hammer Down Protocol- that would kill them. Since they don't die- you can hear them say, "Help us" after the credits, so it had to be another big explosion... and that's why I had the creature exploding in my take on the next movie. The creature would need to die if there is a sequel because there needs to be a big audience pay off there. You wouldn't be happy if you sat through two movies and still not be able to kill this thing- and it would be an anti-climax if it just went back into the sea. But I also believe that the movie's creators wouldn't want to end the franchise by destroying the monster. But they would be more inclined if a new monster could take it's place. Read the link above and then read the update. I believe the new monster will be a human version of what we saw in the first movie and her name will be Jamie Lascano.

So....

A: You'll have to kill the Cloverfield Creature in the sequel.

B: You'll have to reveal the new creature (Jamie) somewhere in the sequel as well. Jamie mutating out of control. This will be the "twist" at the end.

C: To fit into a military take on this Jamie would have to be seen somewhere in the second movie mutating (probably in the quarantine area- the soldiers see her, she gets bigger, they shoot at her, she escapes leaving the audience wondering where she went)

D: She returns at the end of the movie (after the credits). We see a glimpse of her, much larger than before, laughing at the death of the other creature, then runs out of sight into the still smouldering streets of Manhattan.

E: Jamie will be the creature in Cloverfield 3.

F: The climax of the third movie will be many people (and pets) mutating into huge monsters.

G: The antidote to this mutation will be found in the cause (Slusho) and be distributed (somehow) to this small army of creatures.

H: The very end of the third movie will show the Mother of the original Cloverfield Creature rise from the sea, cause a massive tidal wave- which, in effect, rescues the heroes (doco film makers) from a dire situation- lets out a big roar, and sinks back into the ocean.

Because of all the exposition I don't think the third could be completely shot in handy cam. My guess is it will be a mocumentary instead- a straight-faced dark humoured comedy (the comedy being that we know it's not real but the doco is such a serious take on it).

And I expect the dvds will have the most awesome amount of special features on them (from the viral marketing campaign they initiated).

There. Let's see if I'm right in 4 years time. Razz

now, i'm not trying to flame you matbrady, i'm just going to explain why i disagree with almost everything u said, haha Wink

cloverfield is an exhibit dealing with futility. if a goddamn monster comes out the of the sea and destroys new york, we are fucked. possibly we might be able to "win" and kill the monster--but judging from what we saw in the first movie, it doesn't seem likely that we can kill it very easily. i think it adds more to the wonderment and fear surrounding the monster realizing we can't kill it.
it is, in a way, a symbol of many problems we face in life, both personal problems and as a nation. some problems simply can not be "beat." u just have to deal with some difficult shit.
thus--the cloverfield monster (if the same vein is carried throughout the cloverfield franchise) can't be killed simply on principle of what the movie represents (to me).

also, this movie is all about realism. regardless that a monster is attacking new york. IF a monster were to attack new york, this movie was a fairly realistic approach to how it would go down.
therefore, the mutations of everyone into monsters really seems hokey and "the easy way out" for a twist in a movie. also, haven't people been drinking slusho in japan for a while now (the success of which brings the company to expand into america). no1 in japan has mutated that i know of. a sudden burst of mutations doesn't make too much sense to me.

all in all, i'm pretentious. so what.
