[Trivia] I Love Bees and Lemon Tress

Searching Google for ILOVEBEES, I opened the very last hit, I came accross this thread

http://www.webfrustration.com/showthread.php?threadid=302656

Quote:
I was having the worst problem 'Synchronize' function using
Dreamweaver MX 2004 for both Macintosh and Windows. I would create a
new site, I was able to use the 'Get' and 'Put' functions just fine.
When I would use 'Synchronize,' it seemed that anything that had to be
done on the server wouldn't work and I would get a 'not updated'
message appearing in the 'Status' column. What gives? I also figured
out that a different site I had hosted on the same server was working
just fine with the 'Synchronize' function.

Here is the problem... probably fairly common. For the site that
works, let's call it 'ilovebees.com' and for the site that doesn't
work let's call it 'lemontrees.com.'

ilovebees.com - All I ever update is stuff in the 'public_html'
directory so in the 'Remote Information' setting in dreamweaver I set
the 'Host Directory' to 'public_html/.'

lemontrees.com - I have some items located outside the web area in my
account that I also need to keep track of so I set the 'Host
Directory' to nothing sice all my files are there in the root of my
account.

AND therein lies the problem. If you set the Host Directory to
nothing, you are going to get the 'not updated' remark and nothing is
going to happen. Even though when you connect to the remote site and
see everything fine, are able to upload and download, and perform most
other functions with the remote site, the blank 'Host Directory'
causes problems with the synch.

SOLUTION: Put the full path in there... for example '/home/ilovebees/'
or wherever the files are located, your hosting facility would be able
to give you this information. This is only a problem when you need to
put in a blank 'Host Directory' because everything that you need is in
the root.

Hope this helps.

Following the Lemon trees link

http://www.lemontrees.com

Gets you to a page that has the following links at the very top:

Lemon
Fruit Trees
Nursery
Halo
Bees
Tree
Trees

The Halo and Bees link lead you to yet more links, sort of a crappy search engine.

It's probably nothing, so please disprove it so that at least other restless souls will find this unrelated site by using the search function.

The name is registered to JMC Beauty Salons, nothing known to be in-game is related to that. And it was registered in 1997. That makes it pretty obvious that this isn't in-game. The links on the top are just them trying to generate traffic off some popular recent searches.

If you go to www.ilovebees.com/home/something it gives 404 if you go to www.ilovebees.com/home/something.html it gives blank page.. works with any variations just like bladeeblahljafsdf.ilovebees.com did. It doesn't give a blank page with .htm .shtm .shtml.... it's probably got nothing to do with the game, but it's interesting that it ends up like that. Must have something to do with the way they randomly create stuff?? It doesn't work on the www.ilovebees.com/anythingyouwant.html that gives 404, but if you go www.ilovebees.com/anydirectoryyouwant/anythingyouwant.html it gives blank page.

I think that these sites are in game.
The lemontrees.com site looks like it some just trying to act like it is in the game but I think it is because it has a link to www.killerbeeguy.com/ which has a link to www.bisbeemarquee.com/ which is a paper that does not exist is Bisbee AZ nor does the The Killer Bee Guy . I found this out by looking at the areaguides.net yellow pages and the paper is not listed.

i highly doubt an in-game site would have popups (ugh), thus I doubt lemontrees is in-game.

lemontrees.com is one of the fake/spam/spyware/adware search engines that are all over the place, domain-name squatters snap them up and set up the crappiest search engines known to man, all paid-advertiser sponsered links, not really a search engine at all... for example, if you click on Halo, you don't actually get Halo, you get a bunch of crap

those links are there just because that's what people have been searching for lately, they got lucky that that domain happens to appear next to ilovebees.com in some book, that's all

bisbeemarquee.com looks like it's just an online publication, and as such would not necessarily have a business address.

Also, I find internet yellow pages to be unreliable. If you really want to make sure, someone from Bisbee, Arizona is going to have to check it out (and probably The Killer Bee guy,) too.

Uncertain, but I don't think those are in-game.

The post on that message board is from March 10th 2004. The second domain mentioned is snatched up by a search engine advertiser (notice the words on the page indicate the search terms that are most common for the page). If that domain was pulled out of a hat for his example, then the bess domain was probably pulled out of a hat as well.

It's not uncommon for someone asking a question or making an example like that to avoid using their domain names.

Lemon Tree

As far as the original domain registrant, I am from Long Island, NY, where Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown is - and that address is a beauty salon called "The Lemon Tree". I think there are a couple of shops in the chain, and I know they have been around for years. I suspect that this was a legitimate registration which ended up not being used for it's original purpose.

At the point that the halo connection was found by the Unfiction folks, we found that usenet posting. At that time, it did nothing, so I suspect it was just created to caplitalize on the game.
