[spec] Not a release or demo?

I'm sorry if someone else has already said this, but I've scoured the forum for a while and not seen it said. The demo and early release have been talked to death, and I don't buy into either. I do however think the covenant invasion of then is possible, and I'm wondering if we need to (gasp* overused phrase) "think outside the box." I think it'd be more likely that a teaser trailer might come out at the end of countdown, showing the covenant invasion, or another stage of preparation with a trailer to come soon after. We can continually rip apart every clue for answers, that's fine, but when we speculate to try and derive other outcomes, we need to be more creative.

I believe that this is prob. the most logical guess. A teaser trailer, but what fun is that Smile

The game is just too big to be just a trailer. Or even just a demo.

We HAVE trailers already. I remember watching, on TechTV about 6 months ago, gameplay of Halo 2. Driving around in a Puma on earth.

What would a new trailer get us? Other than making the people who spent tons of time to figure this out mad, I mean.

Yeah, I don't mean to kill the hype, but this is just another speculation to consider as well as a call to everyone to consider more possibilities. Brain-storming sparks ideas among others. Who knows, if this is all a Covenant invasion preparation, maybe we'll be able to see covenant communications or invasion tactics after the countdown. It could be a million different things, and most of them cool.

Why assume it's HALO related?

Well it was on the Halo 2 movie trailer, is the big clue to lead us to believe its halo related. We also get radio communications i assume that are halo related, lots of things point to halo.

Radio communications as in the text on the website that seem like dialogue.

ONI connection? http://www.nmic.navy.mil/

As I said in another thread, tons of people were going to see the Halo 2 trailer. It was a medium that was going to be seen by many.

You don't put the good commercials on during shows with low ratings, do you?

But also one that would be largly ignored by the none gaming community.

Non-gamers still saw the trailer before movies. Plus, there was a /. story. And word of mouth works wonders, too.

Yes, and as I said, will probably be ignored. How many people who saw the trailer would have been paying attention? Odds on, gamers only.

Amazingly enough the only people I know who know about this have all seen the trailer or the site. In the office I'm in no-one knows anything about this.

Did you tell anybody? Word of mouth only works when you use your mouth to form words that inform your friends of what's going on.

If you want to get a message to people, do you play it between 3 and 4 am on a public access channel, or do you play it between 6-9 on a network?

The more people see it, the more people will be curious.

Only 2 were interested in the conversation, both gamers. 1 of them asks me what's happening from time to time.

You play it on TV, not the cinema for a start. If the message is a real message aimed at the masses you also give more than a 0.5 second flash of a website that most people will have missed.

I'd say that of all the people who have been to see the mainstream films, less than 1% have actually logged on the net to follow this up. Not a good way to transmit a message.

So using the arguement you throw out there...

It can't be a DEMO because not enough people are aware of what's going on.

It can't be an early release, because not enough people are aware of what's going on.

It can't be anything BIG that relates to HALO because not enough people are involved.

I didn't say any of that. I simply said that if you're aiming a message at the mass market then this is NOT the way to do it.
However if you're aiming a message at a gaming community then this IS a way of doing it.

If was an SPDR or early release then don't you think it'd drive up the hype on the net if something like this was to be done? (and indeed, hype is all over the place) However look at the main strem news sites. Nothing. This is just a way of letting the gaming community know that *something* is happening soon. It also makes sense to do it now, so that people don't forget about Halo 2 come the release of Doom 3 and HL2.

Dropping a SPDR in the middle of them two is quite frankly a brilliant idea from a marketing PoV.
