Yes, and she smites thy good movies with crappy sequels. Hooray for everything.
EDIT: That story is some weak, weak journalism.

yea i don't see how they could work a sequel but it would be lovely if it was from an outsider's perspective and shot like an actual film. basically what i mean is like you follow government employees/tag clean up guys or something of in that vein and discover more about the monster, origins motives creation etc., though it would be hard to make a movie out of that unless they introduced some new blood.

i dont know if i should be excited or if i should run away in fear...
sequals can sometimes be good, but no sequal will top Cloverfield
its sad actually

Indeed, whenever I hear about a movie I really enjoyed being diluted with sequels my thoughts always return to the travesty that was The Crow: City of Angels.

Yea but when I hear sequel I think Terminator 2
.....
but then i remember T3 Rise of the Machines and forgot that I ever supported sequels. On a different note though, look at Cloverfield. It's probably the most original movie that's come out in years, so who's to say Reeves couldn't recreate glory?

Im not saying it couldn't be done.
But there's several elements that made cloverfield what it is, and finding a way to recreate something yet have the feel, can be a very difficult task. Luckily i have faith in the these particular film makers, and hopefully paramount won't push the movie too much. Id rather have a well thought out, planned sequel than a quick, sloppy, money grab like most sequels tend to be.

You can't really recreate originality. The idea of Cloverfield could never really be original again. Not to say there couldn't be a good sequel, but I would say the odds are stacked against it. T2 was special, nothing can be compared, not even work by Abrams.

I'd much rather find out about the origins of MGP and the possible "conspiracies" related to his awakening/attack through some type of ARG/ARE events...than deal with the prospect of a terrible sequel.
I don't know how they'll do it, but hopefully Reeves pulls through.
Maybe they could shoot it in news clips and interviews and piece them together. I dunno. I'd like the sequel to stick close to the original "realism", but at the same time...if they do that, I'm sure it would flop if it was just the same 1st-person romp through some place in the U.S.
Even though I'll probably see the sequel 3+ times. Unless it's so terrible I'd rather deny it exists.

Well that's just not fair. But either way you can't please everybody and you can't just create a new best and most original movie ever on every try so what else are they supposed to do?
I don't really have a problem with sequels. It's pretty much a given which ones are going to be good and which ones are going to be bad (in most cases.) I think there's potential here and that's all there really ever is in the beginning isn't there?

here's my idea for a sequel, enough about all this "a different camera guy on the bridge business" because really it would bomb. cloverfield is a love story gone godzilla. so really it would be the same experience with a different story overlaid. what they need is something shot from an actual movie perspective. kind of a timeline of events type thing.
6:30 am date before attack -
shows scientists stationed off the east coast picking up strange echo location readings. one is concerned but the other one thinks its nothing.
basically just before during and after from diff perspectives, some knowledgeable, others just civilians.
and throughout the movie we discover the monster's origins, motives, final fate etc.
