I really, really don't want to be an asshat about this, but I felt like I wasted my time reading that article. It was short and stuffed with wisps of promises. Although I would definitely go see a sequel and pay attention to the ARG/ARE, I think this is making a big fuss over essentially nothing.

But that's what we do best here in the Cloverfield forum. Wink

It's the first official piece saying Paramount wants Cloverfield 2. As obvious as it was, it wasn't a sure thing.

That piece is far from official, and, to reiterate, weak journalism. Not that I doubt a sequel will be forthcoming. I expect lackluster results. But I'll stop saying that now, it might be bad mojo, ya know.

cloverfield 2 - this time shit gets real!

the army gets a shitload of war submarines and goes down to the seafloor to where the colony of MGP's chill and raise hell. box office GOLD

The first one wasn't an action movie? Or did the monster, burning/crashing buildng, fending for your life aspect make it a comedy?

It wasn't an action movie. It barely cuts it as an action adventure. If anything it's more like survival horror. You know, scary corridors, dark tunnels, Oh My God LOOK BEHIND YOU, that kind of thing.

I see that story and I'm not thinking sequel at all, I know you'll hate me for saying this, but theres a certain TV show that I enjoy that has very similar mysteries, that JJ excels at continuing without killing it. It also just so happens that this show will premiere its new season tonight. But back on topic, I'm not thinking sequel at all, I'm thinking episode 2.

I suppose, but if we make Cloverfield into an action movie I fear it would be too much like Indiana Jones or something. We don't want that.

Oh, and this is categorized under the action genre. See IMDb.

Which worked amazingly in its favor. I think it's going to be awesome to see a completely different aspect of the monster attack.

Man, that's all we need. Another shitty "god's eye view" monster movie. Just because you want to know what's going on doesn't mean they'll ruin the formula they've cooked up. It would ruin the story incredibly to have them try and explain everything about the monster, etc. I hate, hate, hate those type of movies. It's Roland Emmerich bullshit. Exposition is for pussies.

which in my opinion is far better than a lame "lets see how many big guns and explosions we ca fit into one movie..!!"

I like the idea of a horror film alot more than a gung ho tough guy flick.
Cloverfield is about mystery and suspense, not explosions and military tough guys.

Don't get me wrong i'd love for there to be another movie.
I'd just hate to see it lose the mystique and survival aspect, just because it made a lot of money and people want more action.
Like i said earlier i'd rather a well thought out film, that may take some time to make, rather than an action shoot em up with big explosion tough guy flick.

Hmm, Maybe the guy on the bridge with the other camera was a professional cameraman.. Maybe an off hours journalist TRYING to get the story and stay alive. The camera work would be better, he'd try to get some rushed answers to his questions. Unless they padded it with other video clips from other victims, it would likely pick up In Media Res and, we'd get one short bittersweet shot of Hud again in the film..

it cant come quick enough for me. I just hope they do it the same way, as many others have said, from someone else point of view of the night, from a different camera

No, what we need is a special edition Cloverfield ADD And Retard Cut box set.

For the ones who don't get it and need modern cinema to be put in a blender, and churned into Gerber's baby food and spoon fed.

Just amazing. If M. Night Shyamalan made this movie you people would be really screwed.

No mystery will be tolerated. Overturn every stone and please Hollywood just give us every plotline.

I really feel embarrassed after recommending, promoting and spreading the word about Cloverfield. After being a student of filmmaking and cinematography. After studying my idols like Scorsese and Kubrick and Lynch or Soderbergh or the Cohen Brothers...

No wonder there are only basically garbage public consumption movies made today. In an era where on tv reality shows and trash like American Idol goes on and on and Journeyman gets canceled.

Now I get it. Now I know.

Just now realized this? Also if M Night Shymalan had made this movie it would have been as terrible as his other films. (see Signs for key example of complete suckiness) Smile

Of course Shyamalan movies "suck" to most people who have seen them. Because every scene isn't a giveaway of the next.

Oh heaven help us we actually have to think about the movies we watch.

Let's just go back and fix our mistakes and make a Casablanca 2, or a Maltese Falcon 2, or a Citizen Kane 2 or a White Heat 2.
