I'd Like to Propose A New Forum Sub-Category...

a sister category to the Press area, really.

I was just over at Universe Creation 101 and followed a link to a recent study about information behavior of the "google generation", and I wanted to post a link to it here.

Research studies--either about ARGs specifically or about phenomena that relates to what we're doing here--don't really fit in the press area. Also, I think posting them in the general meta area would result in their being "lost" over time...

So could we create, under the meta category, a sub area called research, or studies, or academic la la... where we can aggregate all of this critical information?

"Regular" studies could be posted about in there, and those discussions could be allowed to age normally. But items such as Christy Dena's ARG statistics could be stickied at the top, as examples of persistently relevant information...

Does anyone else see value in this proposal?

Hmm...either that or a stickied thread could be created in press just for teh research studies...but it might fill up fast...hmm...

or just change the category to "Press and other Analysis" -- it's not like it's overflowing with media articles right now.

Would this section be only for research about ARG's specifically, or would it also include research that's relevant to ARGs somehow? For example, would the article about learning discussed in ARG netcast #46 be the sort of thing you're thinking would go in that place? I could see reasons in favor of either.

Ideally it would showcase studies about ARGs--again, this would look like a sister to the press area. The reality on the street, however, is such that (I'm guessing) there isn't really that much academic study about ARGs.

Sure, there are people, like Jane McGonigal, who are critically analyzing this art form and its implications, but to be honest the output probably isn't enough to sustain its own forum category.

So, for now, the category would have to include any research that is ARG-relevant.

I like that idea and, more generally, of having a place for the academicy statsy stuff.

I don't think it's worth splitting hairs over whether the press and this proposed "academic studies" area should be separate or joined...

How, then, could we push this change through? Also, I'd like to request/suggest that the press area (whether or not it remains separate) be moved to the "Meta" section of the site...

Since the meta section is supposed to foster/contain discussions about chaotic fictions, ARGs, and the like... and because many of the conversations that happen in the press area end up being meta conversations, I don't see why it shouldn't be here.

(Also, I tend to find this area is the one I frequent the most, so I'll do anything I can to contribute to others joining the meta discussions...)
