Book 3 has begun!

In case you missed it, Peter Severn sent out an email to some of our people over at the Sentry Outpost.

well i've certainly stepped right into it. I try to be a good lurker, I try to avoid character interaction, I try to just solve puzzles, but NOOOOoooo! They pulled me into the thick of it this time. I'll be posting some details from my Sacramento rendezvous over in Sentry Outpost, and it will be totally in character -- because it WAS totally in character for me. I was immersed up to my eyeballs and had NO idea that I was meeting a PM, I just assumed they found a very talented actor. I'm such a rube. Missphinx was with me and she recognized Nicko, Rogi was with us and he recognized Nicko, UnholyChaos shows up and she recognized Nicko (i'm clueless) -- but they all did a great job of playing it straight. And I thank them one and all for an amazing experience. If I did meet Nicko and Linda at ARGfest, i don't remember it, sorry. And although I don't regularly listen to the argnetcast audio, I know I've heard Nicko's voice on a few of them in the past, yet I did NOT recognize his voice in person. Rogi let slip that he recognized the accent as being Greek -- he even told me to "say hi to Nicko" if he couldn't make it -- but nothing in my brain clicked until the discussion in the car on the way home. Doh!

Well done!

(minor edit because i was told some obsolete gossip) (and to stop spelling it 'Nico')

It was a very good outing. I met catherwood and missphinx at the bathrooms a few minutes after 7pm and we quickly found our contact located in a private alcove. After the initial exchange, I took a picture of him and catherwood for use as a chain of custody. While I was taking their picture, someone took mine. The group encouraged me to ask the lady to join us. I did and she did. It was unholychaos, who was a good addition to the Sentries as she asked some really good questions, which I welcomed as I haven't been keeping track of the game for some time, now..

Peter's employee (I'll just call him "Jimmy", 'cause he definitely wasn't sharing his name) was frustratingly tight-lipped, hubric (In a "we can find out anything we need to know" way) and convincingly aloof. Dressed to the nines in a black, three piece suit and silver silk tie. He did share that this kind of thing (computer forensics) was more or less his specialty and that he spends more time on the road than off.

We got no revealing information beyond what was in the medical records handed off. Even questions like, "Where would you get pictures of the drive in question in the first place?" went unanswered. (He had pictures with him to validate the serial number and thought Peter might take issue with the drive's master/slave jumper having been moved Laughing )

He admitted stealing glances of the documents and wished us luck in trying to get anything meaningful out of "the ravings of a madman with a daddy complex."

We asked why Peter might be interested in any of this and the best answer was an uncommitted, "Hobby?"

It wasn't till after he left that we really looked the records over well and admired the "authenticity" of the file, overall. I noticed some things missing that, retrospectively, we could have asked about. Things like the Admitting History and Physical and any kind of Treatment Plan. I'm sure our answer would have been, "You've got what we have." or something similarly dismissive.

That said, I did get the feeling that he was waiting for us to ask the "right" question and that there might have been more to exchange. But, I didn't catch any hints as to what tack to try. There were lots of pregnant pauses on everyone's part while feeling each other out and he was obligated to stay till the appointed hour of 8pm "In case another drive should magically appear. And should that happen, there would be consequences."

I got an hours worth of audio from the meet, but there's only so much a PDA in my shirt pocket in a room with music piped in can capture. I tried cleaning it up, but I'm no good at that kind of thing. Tonamel has a copy and will try as well. If it can't be cleaned up, it's really not worth listening to for anyone who wasn't there.

Thanks, Jimmy. Well played. You arrogant bastard Wink

ETA: One other thing we did talk about a little was our respective organizations. Jimmy asked if we were the group Peter calls, "Sentries" and how big our organization is. Our best answer was "We don't know. Much like you don't know how big yours is." He did say it was very large.

Thanks for the update, Rogi! Sounds like a great drop!

In response to this, I assumed that the photos were from Art. We know he was at the original ritual site from the ticket stub that was left. Maybe he documented the site with photos, then left to check in (no cell phone access in the storage facility, remember?) with his superiors (Peter) and came back to find the hard drive missing. Then he could have locked up the storage facility while sapagoo was checking in with us in order to preserve the site for further documentation.

Just my spec. Take what you will.

I've been asked to share the photos I took of the Sacramento group. These just felt too cheery to post on the Sentry Outpost. (Our contact never gave us a name -- we're calling him "Jimmy") Hey, how did Cthulhu get into that photo?

Woo. This should be fun. Not sure how much I can participate but I am going to do what I can.
