not if MGP is a mutation...

MGP could be then one of a kind...and that would be why it has separation anxiety...it doesn't even know what species its mother or father is...it doesn't even understand what species it is...and there is no other species like it to be able to relate with

I don't you can conclude for sure there is a mother or daddy around.

From the production notes:

"The concept for the monster (affectionately known simply as "Clover" in-house) is simple, says Abrams. "He's a baby. He's brand-new. He's confused, disoriented and irritable. And he's been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years."

How is he a baby and been down in the water for thousands and thousands of years?

This leaves open a lot of possible tie ins with the ARG. Perhaps the monster was sleeping/frozen and was awoken/released by the drilling, or that it was an egg, found, hatched and given enough Sea Bed Necter to cause it to grow quickly (we know the SBN has the property to enhance the speed of cellular growth).

There's definitely only one monster.

It's impossible to get a proper sense of scale of the thing when there's nothing to compare it to, like at the end when it is the only thing in the shot. No buildings or anything.

Just before the camera pans up to show it though you can see its enormous front arm dwarfing everything around it.

It looks a different colour because we're seeing it from an angle where it looks to be completely in shadow. Every time we've seen it from above it's bathed in moonlight.

Its in the streets, 1 second later its under the bridge, and then releasing parasites on a building?

Doesnt make sence.

Nearly six hours progressed in the 90 minutes the film was running.

Am I the only one that got the sense that MGP was following HUD and crew around? Also, it's strange to me that people are saying how absurd it is for the monster to be in so many places in so little time and not question how HUD and crew are doing the same. If anything, it's Rob and his friends that are teleporting around the city in between scenes.

the movie is 90 minutes, the event is about six hours, wouldnt it make sense if it was cut a little bit?
you cant put six hours in 90 minutes.

I think what he means is that it would actually be more believable that the monster could get to those different places so fast than for humans on foot (in response to people saying that the monster appears in totally different places so quickly). If the characters do it, it would be even easier for MGP.

did you eventually ask yourself what kind of movie would it be if the monster DIDN'T follow them everywhere?

I honestly can't see how people still think there's more than 1 monster.

unForums > IMDB, remember?

Doesnt make sence.

It's hundreds of feet tall...wouldn't take more than a minute to travel great distances.
Not to mention there was an unknown amount of time that lapsed in between these moments.

Did you fail to see how fast it moved? It could scale Manhattan in 1 minute.

Looking at the map

Looking at this map: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7403/cloverfieldmap3ph9.jpg

It's easy to see how things transpired. Seems perfectly feasible for the monster to be in the places it was at the time/s it was. Cities tend to get confusing in scale and size at night, or in the day for that matter. Particularly 'huge' ass cities where there is no land but a park in the middle.
