An Odysseus spec thread would be good. We certainly haven't explored that one directly.

As for the Spider and the Flea... it's interesting that it's the Flea who kicks off the chain of events. The spider gets burned, the Flea gets everyone to panic, and the Flood carries us all away.

Except that it ignores the Princess and the Queen.

That's contingent on my ability to actually stay coherent... The time at home would be much more productive if I weren't actually sick. (Except that my boss would skin me alive if I thought about playing hooky right now.)

Tangential, but maybe related... the footprint of the flea takes over for Robinson Crusoe's first evidence of Friday. Perhaps this means that the Pious Flea character is native to the beach that the Castaway now finds himself... but my memory of the story is a bit vague.

If that's true, that'll give us a lever to pry loose the identity of the Flea in the fable, which may give ideas as to who is the Door/Ash/Tree/etc.

Spider gets burned = Melissa+SPDR is damaged (this part seems clear)

The flea causes everyone to panic
-
Could mean that Dana is the flea, she screamed, we're in a panic, and we ruin all the plans by washing it away

or

The covenant caused the humans to panic on Halo, releasing the flood

or

The Flea/Princess screams, causing us to panic, destroying Melissa and ruining our chances of 'survival'

---

That's what I see as possibilities off hand.

Interesting... if we follow the Crusoe link so far as to conflate the Pious Flea and Friday, we may well assume that the Queen/Operator will capture the flea and turn him to her ways, making him her Servant, and weaning him off Cannibalism.

(though fleas are parasites, not cannibals, I think the necessary change in diet strengthens the spec)
