I have this hunch that the text was translated from Chinese to English, then pasted in its shambled glory onto the Phebco homepage...that's just a hunch though.

On a more plausible note, maybe the atomic numbers corresponding to the chemicals mean something? Almost every message with "&mdash" (or "-") in it has chemical abbreviations as well. The only other thing thats bugging me is the constant substitution of "s" for "z" in words such as characterization.

I'll fool around with this later...right now its AP History study time...yay... Confused

This random gibberish reminds me of a text generator used by some chat bots. It's usually used to generate flood text and generally annoy or at least amuse chatters. It's got a very familiar pattern to it, so I think I'll check with some folks I know that tinkered with this sort of thing.
My suspicion is that they used this said text generator to make the broken site, but how or why it was broken is still a mystery - although a screwup or even vandalism by Donnie is plausible and funny. Donnie has a bit of that BOFH flair to him.

I think you're right. I'm also trying to figure out how they made all this gibberish. It reminds me of the spam gibberish you get, but chemical-waste related. Maybe they have a program where you just put in a bunch of information and it jumbles it up.

I'm pretty sure it was converted via an algorithm of some sort.

If you still have any of the pages in your cache, you can see them as they were, yesterday and when you hit refresh, they change to their newer version.
I saved some of the original vs. new stuff in a google doc http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg8tmkm4_0d7vgj2c4
But am having trouble sharing it.

The meat of the issue is that the title of the page updates to what was showing on the corrupted homepage menu for that page. ("Services" becomes "Risk ash-clay", for example)

No idea about the giberish yet, but reading Donny's auto-response makes me believe we're supposed to contact him on his phone.

Hi. Thanks for trying to get in touch with me. From Feb. 1 through Feb 11 I will be traveling with the company and will not be able to respond to emails. I will however answer my phone and texts.

Of course, the main question now is getting his number!

I was thinking that too. I sent an email to the auto-responder pretending to be his friend and asked for his number. But thats when the garbage emails started. So earlier I emailed Tanika saying pretty much the same thing. I didn't get an auto-response, maybe she will tell me. I kind of doubt she will though. I have a feeling this is more of a joke, then they realized people are treating it as a game so they are playing along. But it does look like it was very well planned out, so who knows.

I noticed that the forums have been deleted. The actual site and memberlist stuff is still there, but he must have deleted the threads.

How many chemical names are on the main website? This may be just a hunch, however I think a phone number could be concealed there. I've fooled around with it a bit...this is what I have so far:

(As) Cd Ni Ha-1 -1 (U) Se Si (He) C ha-1 (U) (Se)

(33) 48 28 105-1-1 (92) 34 14 105-1 (92) (34)

Braces mean that I'm not sure if the mistake notaes chemical or not; "Ha" is the previous symbol for Db. But still...that doesn't really look like a phone number, oh well.

Maybe they have something to do with Atomic numbers, or some sort of number corresponding to it's chemical. I dont know, I never was all that good with Chemistry.

Good work on that, ChuSTAR, you might have something there. I also noticed in Phebco People that in front of the employees names are letters. Some seem to be their position letters, but other don't. Here it goes:

John M. Brackenridge, P.G.
Carl C. Carothers, P.G.
Nancy Zamborgh, P.E./CHMM
Richard Davenworth, J.D.

PhebCo General Staff Directory
Alex Zune (Environmental Program Supervisor.)
Nancy Folly (SRA)
Tina Kroger (EE Sr.)
Arnie Bart (EE)
Nick Feet (EE)
Tanika Jones (ES Sr.)
Robert Macnamerica (ES)
Dane Nooktool (ES)
David Pross (ES)
Warren Moonbeam (PP2)
Alberta Jones-Drew (Environmental Program Supervisor)
Contact Alberta Jones-Drew
Randy Smolder (Adm. Assistant)
Don Drumm (PP3)
Jill Rockabily (PP2)
Russel Thompson (PP2)
Brian Edwards (PP2)
Donnie Hoyle (CT4)
Trisha Siverstein (EE Sr.)
Johnas Parks (Environmental Program Supervisor)
Bob McDowell (ES Sr)
Christopher David (ES)
Cole Davidson (PP1)
Thomas Trokaw (EO2)
Dannie Dykes (PP2)
Geoff Thathmobil (ES)
Angie Cramer (AA)
Stewie Thompson (Merit)
Terry King (PP3)
Matthew Memerine (ES)
Bert Spicer (PP3)

I'm trying a different route, though. I keep thinking why they listed all that email contacts on the Phebco people part of the site, so I've emailed them all (I think somebody here tried already but no response given?), saying my company needed to contact him urgently - somebody there (28 contacts) could have his number (*crosses fingers*) or could throw us a clue.

I'll post more as more comes.

EDIT: nevermind about the letters in front of the names, as I checked the cache from before the site when crazy and it's all the same.

Ok...I think I may have something, chances are no, but hey, who knows. I took the period of all of the chemicals I listed in the last post and got a phone number, however its in Albany NY, so its probably unrelated, but I'll post it here none the less: 454-7431-274. Lemme know what you people think.

The position letters after the employee's names were copied from another waste website. They just changed the people's names a little bit. Except there are a few employees like Donnie that were not copied but just made up (because their job description doesn't show up on the real page) and their position letters were also made up.

Strange the website has mirrored and gone binary.

in the binary of the first news article is this.
Quote:
I am awareThere is no coming to consciousness without pain.

strange...

also
this
Quote:
I am awareNo one can flatter himself that he is immune to the spirit of his own epoch, or even that he possesses a full understanding of it. Irrespective of our conscious convictions, each one of us, without exception, being a particle of the general mass, is somewhere attached to, colored by, or even undermined by the spirit which goes through the mass. Freedom stretches only as far as the limits of our consciousness.
