"Confirmation that Universal and Paramount, the last two movie studios that support the HD DVD format, are now free to switch to Blu-ray, joining the other major studios, appears to sound the death knell for HD DVD."
finally! i might be able to watch cloverfield on 1080p blueray on my ps3.

I wish Universal and Paramount would get off that sinking ship (HD DVD) however they've both stated since this article they're sticking it out for now.
I think they're both holding out until BD-live (Blu-ray Profile 2.0) is more common place.

I goddamn hope that it doesn't just come out on Blu-Ray, as that I have a regular DVD player.

The whole HD vs. Blu-Ray is the dumbest thing I've ever heard... Who the hell cares what form the movie comes in, people just want to watch it.

People care because they need to know which expensive player they need to buy. You don't want to be stuck with the player that no one supports.

Cloverfield on Blu-ray is something I was hoping for since I watched the movie itself, though I have yet to upgrade. Since most companies seem to be switching to Blu-ray, I'm guessing it will only be a while before Paramount joins them.
Keeping the movie on DVD may allow more consumers in Paramount's favor, though.

Blu-ray has already won the HD war. All companys except Paramount and Universal have signed on to Blu-ray. And yes, I know those are the two major movie companies, but they have been talking about switching to Blu-ray for a while.
Now the question is whether or not they switch to Blu-ray before Cloverfield is released.

People I think they will also release it on regular DVD format. you don't have to worry about the HD formats if you don't have a player or a HDTV.
Besides, i think they sell players that play both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray
