I had a chance to watch this scene in slo-mo...*coughs*

anywho....Hud get's bitten in 2...his legs fall out and hit the ground, the camera is let go by a presumably dead hud from inside the monsters mouth and quickly thereafter the monster spits out the upper torso of Hud. On the way down, in the camera spirals in the air pointed down a bit, so you can see his LOWER torso already on the ground before it and his upper torso hit the ground. Very creep scene in slo-mo.

Think you can upload it somewhere? I'd like to see it.
same here, for analyzing of course

Hud's death
Creepy and disturbing...

This I don't get at all in the film and pushes it.

Even though his buddy has just been BITTEN IN HALF, by a 300 FOOT TALL MONSTER and his REMAINS have been SPAT out on the ground in front of him, Rob STILL makes a grab for that camera. That's dedication people! Honestly though, who would do this under these circumstances?

Anyone else would be screaming in the opposite direction. Unless there's something on that tape he doesn't want anyone else to see.

True, but when you saw what was behind them (where the planes were flying) there wasn't anything relatively close, and the bridge seemed like the only 'safe' place to go at the time.

Uh, that wasn't my point......

I was noting that with his friend's gory death happening right in front of him, Rob doesn't run horrified away from the carnage but rather runs up to his friend's remains and grabs the camera. Why? Is it really that important to document their impending deaths?

Yes, but remember... they've just had a night of terrifying experiences. Seeing a friend like that might have passed under the threshold of their logical definition of "horrifying."

At that time, they were in survival mode. With the "youtube" generation, what better way to survive than to catch yourself on camera. Having the video might be as useful as having a message in a bottle or a compass.

Especially since it WAS Rob's camera, after all.

Not running away theory

Remember when JFK got shot and his wife starting crawling down the back of car trying to grab the pieces of his head? People do really strange things when confronted with horrible events. Even if Rob knew Hud was in two pieces he may not have been able to keep himself from running over just to make sure he wasn't still alive. It might have been a knee-jerk reaction. (thinking emotionally and not logically) Also, people can live for a short time even if they are well, halved. Sounds gross, but it does happen.
As far as taking the camera goes...the movie wasn't over yet. Without the camera, the whole part under the bridge would have been sort of pointless. Wink There probably isn't any other logical reason for that.

Anyway, just a thought on it.

Loved the movie, loved Hud, sorry he's dead.

"Not Running Away Theory"

The movie wasn't done yet. Those last five minutes would've been pretty damn boring if we'd been staring at the burning city and focusing in and out on Hud's corpse the whole time.

Well...I'm surprised this topic is still here! Good to see 9 pages of flaming eventually went back to the topic at hand.

I think we can assume that MGP really does eat people, because Marlena said she saw it "eating everyone". I doubt MGP would just start chomping on crowds of people if he was curious. I'd think a screaming person or two would be sufficient.

You gotta figure, MGP is a BIG baby, and he's a growing boy, so he needs his protein. The metabolism of something that huge has to be through the roof. And if it really was scared and confused, then all that frenzied destruction and running around is probably going to make him a little hungry.

To be honest, I was fully expecting to have the camera slide down MGP's throat into blackness, and the movie to end right there. Yeah, it would have been even less of a 'real' ending than it already is (though I do love the abrupt ending), but it would have been really effed up, too.

As to why it ate Hud (well, his lower half, anyway)...yeah, I'll chalk that one up to curiosity. Up until that point, MGP had seen all the squishy little food items running around and screaming, or shooting things at him that hurt a little and pissed him off, so seeing said squishy food item just standing there probably warranted some investigation.

After all, we can see MGP look down at Hud (I still say he looked pissed off), move in for a closer sniff, pull his head back suddenly, cock his head to the side like he was curious, and then move in for a little taste.

Note to self: Find avatar >_>

Hud vs. MGP - SIZE matters!

This is in reference to several statements made in this thread and others.

Let's think about the size of the monster vs. the size of Hud. Let's also use the hasbro toy fair link as an aspect ratio.

Regarding keeping Hud's top "half" intact:
If the Hasbro Toy Fair pic is measured to scale, MGP looks like he can easily fit the truck in that pic in his mouth. Since you can fit a bunch of HUD's in the truck... it's very possible to move around that monster's mouth without getting bitten. Notice it doesn't have flat teeth to mash, just pointy ones to rip and shred. The tongue could do some damage, though!

Also, it sounds as if Hud didn't make it all the way into MGP's mouth. His screams were muffled at times. Something was blocking the mic from picking up the sounds of his cries, and instead got the nom nom noms of dear MGP. Perhaps Hud's top half was hanging out of the mouth while the rest of him was being "mashed". The final crunch separated the lower body from the upper and they fell to the ground. That could explain the lack of saliva and why his face seemed unbloodied.

Remember the teeth marks on the SOL's head? Her crown is an observation deck. Here's a perfect example of how a large object looks from close up: NewYorkology: Visit to the Statue of Liberty.

MGP was huge!

I feel like Hollywood doesn't care about some of this stuff....

like.

everyone continues to discuss this, but has anyone actually considered that there may NOT be answer or proven theory to the unexplained shit?

a lot of movies don't make sense in certain aspects. It's Hollywood. they're just trying to put out a good movie that will make $$.

I doubt the producers or even Abrams thought about some of the nonsense that's been posted on this forum.

people always over-analyze. it's silly.

It's not silly, it's what we do.

The ARG community is, by its very nature, obsessive and prone to over-analyzing things. It's how we work. Hell, if we didn't over-analyze everything, then none of the ARGs would ever leave the ground, and we'd be stuck staring at mysterious websites just thinking "Huh? I don't get it..."

but Hud's death is clearly NOT a part of the ARG, my friend.

Wouldn't the speculation of his death technically be part of the ARG since his myspace profile updated (joking or not)?

And was Marlena's profile always "Slim?" Razz
