Cloverfield killed by the Writers Strike? MGP taken down by the pen? Or lack there of. I'm not sure what to tag this, sorry. If someone could tell me I'll edit asap.
So who thinks that the lack of updates might be related to the writers strike? I might be completely wrong, but what if the writers had only written the viral marketing up to the release of the movie?

I don't think the writers of the "ARG" were WGA members.

I'm guessing the writers for this aren't the same people that write the sitcoms or movie scripts. They learn more towards marketing and advertising.
Besides, a campaign of this magnitude should have been mostly written before the campaign even started.
Face it: the campaign did its job. Time to move on.

and another thing...
the ARG was in full swing during the Writer's Strike. granted, a marketing team could have continued its work but I doubt that.
there are many different leagues and unions in Hollywood. WGA is just the major one.

Hm, I was unaware of that. An easy explanation though would be that they had scripted it only to the release. Maybe thats as far as they got?
I dunno, I'm going out on a limb. I guess I'll just have to wait for II.

The writer's strike is basically over. They are in negotiations right now.
The ARE was fine during the writer's strike, i highly doubt it would be suffering now.

the most probable reason why we haven't heard anything for quite a while is because the viral marketing team are trying to figure out how to tie all the events from the ARG and the movie (for lack of a sugarcoated phrase for saying "they screwed up with the dates due to some miscoordination").
All we can do is hope that everything will be on the DVD including interviews ABOUT the ARG and marketing itself.

The Manga is it IMHO. Movie is out. Monster is loose.....seems like all the posts here are veering towards whether this ARG/ARE is over for sure or not.
Manga....fun word to say eh?

Highly doubtful.
I think the reason we haven't heard much is because there is absolutely no reason for them to release anything. As much as we (the fans) want something to tie this up or hold us off for another sequel, they have no reason to do so. They are not going to hook any more fans (far too late to try that) and are not going to make any more money doing so. I'm surprised that they are even going forward with the manga.

and even then, how do we know that a new manga will be released??
like. obviously it'd be ridiculous and dick of them but I don't see why Paramount would pay to keep a marketing team going.
I mean I guess they could have created all 4 issues months ago but it's just more complicated than that.
I will wait until they release the manga. IF they don't, that should tell you something...

plus the writers strike happened just as the ARG went crazy with updates.

The writers strike was months ago. It recently ended, you know.

It's not over yet. It's nearly over, I'd say a day or so from being over, but not over yet. They still have to vote on whether or not to take the contract.
